Sunscreen school policy I need advice I'm pissed

We were not warned about that beforehand. They just slapped it in our faces a few days ago.

I will, for sure...but, I've signed a contract with them until September...the whole summer is ahead of us, any ideas?

My sister was beside herself because she didn't want her child joining in massage classes with other children but the school was making out that she was depriving her child of physical interaction. My advice was for her to meet halfway.

In the end nature had a mysterious way of handling the situation when my niece said a child was trying to rub her bottom and she didn't like it but the teacher wanted her to do it.



Now the school has a reputation for encouraging children to touch each other whilst teachers watch. The classes mysteriously fizzled out not long after and the school has now shut, maybe for other reasons, but by meeting these robots half way it can be a fun experience.

My son goes to a small private school in WA, he is in second grade.
I was just informed that the school's policy is "no sunscreen/no play in the sun".
My son is made to stay in a tiny corner of the playground that provides shade for every recess, just because I refuse to put sunscreen on him.
I've already explained that he suffers from eczema and the last year haves and I will not put anything on him. I don't even use soap. Nothing....
First of all our kids are so low on vit D that they need some sun exposure, second we are not on the equator for god's sake, we are in the Northern WA, you can barely get enough sun if you expose your whole naked body to it. The only naked parts on my son are his face, hands and bellow the knees.
This is just retarded.
Don't you hate it when the school tries to be the parent?

I emailed his teacher and that's her reply:
"Yes, you may send your own sunscreen. It needs to have a manufacturer's label showing the SPF. Our licensing policy prohibits us from allowing kids to play in the sun without sunscreen. If you have any further questions, please contact..."

Can't your doctor recommend a safe sunscreen for him until you can switch schools after September? There are eczema-friendly sunscreens out there. And get a doctor's note at the same time.

The atmosphere is thinner in the northern hemisphere, hence it does not matter how safe you think it is in comparison to other areas.

As for vitamin d levels being low and needing the sun to produce it - well, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes TOPS for the body to produce it from solar exposure. But, with the overall increase in UV rays hitting the surface - those levels will crash anyway as whatever is produced is used up to repair damage. Sunscreen or not, yoru child is not safe in the sun beyond a few minutes. Take it as you will...

First of all, the entire "licensing policy" phrase is just....bullshit. Sorry, but it is.

License/charter/certification/whatever is what they attained when they were approved to operate as a school.

Policy is what they adopted to use as part of their rules and regulations.

Secondly, does the administrator decreeing the use of chemicals on children (who are not her own!) hold a physicians license too? She was a practicing pediatrician where, exactly?

Because if not, she is insisting on medically treating....think it through, I think you see where I'm going there *wink*

Don't let the BS deter you from doing what is right, and necessary for your son. It may seem like a small matter to others but depriving your child of outdoor activities is akin to....punishment *wink wink*

There is a governing board for private schools, you may find assistance there as well.........

I'd agree if it was something like touching, but when there is a health problem it is not that simple.
