(OP) User ID: 56766573 United States 07/05/2014 11:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bad design. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 767758 Metal frame hard point stress safety glass to the point that the safety glass shatters. I paid $1800 dollars for that patio table and chairs. At that price one would think that you are getting a quality piece of furniture that should last for many, many years. The damn thing was only 4 years old!!! Am I mad? You bet I am. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 22444754 United States 07/05/2014 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its the design, more a function of the money men not spending what was needed to make a good product. If a rubber-like washer was between the glass and metal frame this wouldn't happen Yep. one scratch from glass on metal and POOF, its gone soon enough (depending on scratch size/depth and temperature ) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 22444754 United States 07/05/2014 11:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What if this starts happening with car windshields or high-rise windows in buildings? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42079795 Car windshields are laminated. It prevents this The WTC glass was made in the US.. Shipped to China to be tooled. Shipped BACK and now they are having issues with the glass as the tooling ruined millions of dollars of work and shipping costs. |

Quoting: Dr. Acula Fuck that table it deserved to die... just for deciding to explode on the 4th! Right? If I was having a wild party and the table blew up that would be fine. At least I would have had some people around to help me clean up the mess. The chairs are still fine now that I got all the glass out of the cushions. Ya got any tips on how to make a wood table top? No more glass tables for this girl! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42079795 Thank you. I'm fine. I cut my leg twice dragging trash bags full of glass to the trash. I'm just glad the phone rang and I was not sitting at the table when it exploded. It could have been way worse. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 58624458 United States 07/05/2014 11:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mine blew up on my July 4th party 2 years ago. Have video of the table. The shattered glass was in the same shape as the table was. My lantern from the middle of my table was standing on top of the broken glass exactly where it was previously. In fact all the plastic and metal parts etc were all right where they belonged except now on the ground. |

If a rubber-like washer was between the glass and metal frame this wouldn't happen Yep. one scratch from glass on metal and POOF, its gone soon enough (depending on scratch size/depth and temperature ) There was rubber between the glass and the table. It was well made furniture...or so I thought. It was solid cast aluminum patio furniture. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 58502660 United States 07/05/2014 11:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Heat, cold, and a single scratch. Not kidding. The table is hot(ambient outside temp +sunlight)and you put ice cold drinks on it.This creates tremendous stress in the glass. If the contraction of the glass from a cold drink happens along a scratch....bomb...no more glass table top. |
