Sure Last Edited by Face Palmer on 05/30/2014 09:38 AM "The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title." Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. I am a mechanic for a large food corporation and the mix of equipment we have on site is from early 1900's to present day. One system would save my company millions easily and lower downtime and parts inventory. Its not rocket science and its not my decision, but the executives are always looking to reduce costs and somehow this never gets on their radar. IDK? Anonymous Coward User ID: 58583837 United Kingdom 05/30/2014 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, maybe they will be quicker than those of us who live on this Island as we've been moving over to a more metric system since 1620 when they adopted the Chain and Link measurements, a chain is 0.1 of a furlong and a link is 0.1 of a chain, an acre is 10 square chains... Chains are still used today as a system of measurement on the British railways, bet you did not know that... Oh and 1 chain is the distance between the stumps on a Cricket pitch.. So we have been moving to the metric system for 394 years :) and in the meanwhile we have invented the MetPerial System of Masurement that jams metric and imperial together in really useful ways (well, usefull in confusing the world) when it is cold the media will harp on (haha pun intended) that it is 0 degrees C outside... when it is hot though they will harp on that it is 100 degree F... No one can accuse us of being organised :) |

Quoting: Fret Wiz It would be prohibitively expensive by this time to change, although the imperial system always seemed convoluted to me as well. Do you think you will simply adopt the Metric system or create your own version of the MetPerial System that, well I visualise as shoving the metric and imperial together in one box and then jumping on it to see what happens.. Tyres for example are in MetPerial.. A tyre of 205 55 R16 W is 205mm wide, 55% profile, 16 inch rim, 168mph speed rating.. Totally MetPerial :) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58676267 That or they might want a new system that doesn't have a legal definition of a measurement like: "three grains of sound ripe barley being taken out the middle of the ear, well dried, and laid end to end in a row" BTW, that's an inch |

All the vehicle bolts are metric and you would not be a machinists/engineer without being able to convert one from the other. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58675362 The point being.... Its like a bank saying you have a balance of 32 - your account is empty. Don't tell the British media outlets that, in coldest parts of the winter they all use degrees Celsius and when it hits those precious few days when it is warm they all switch to degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise it is a jumble of both. MetPerial is King :) LOL |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 55079802 United States 05/30/2014 11:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | says Susannah Locke. Quoting: Face Palmer The metric system is far superior to the bizarre system of feet, miles, pounds, and gallons used in the United States. The whole rest of the world seems to get this. So why aren't we doing it, too? The United States actually tried to once before. In the 1970s, there was a big push to switch to metric. But it fizzled out because the legislation wasn't strong enough. And that failed legislation created a slew of naysayers who think that switching to metric is simply impossible. But that's not true. The reasons to go metric are stronger than ever, and it's time to revive the effort. In our increasingly global economy, America's bizarre measurement system puts the country at a disadvantage. Popular opinion on the matter seems to be quite positive, and there are some hints of change on the horizon. [link to www.vox.com] So? Our system works just fine. I could really give two sh$&$ what the rest of the world is doing. There are also other countries that stone people to death for ridiculous reasons, should we do that to? |

I see your point, but in this instance, the imperial measure is more granular and, therefore, a more accurate representation of the temperature. |
