You switch main food source after they got sick by chance to see if it had anything to do with their intake? To many “poison” foods out there right now and the vet will be reluctant to diagnose it as a cause in any way shape or form. GL OP! I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three. |

I had every test run for parasites, from A to Z, X-rays to rule out obstruction and 2 days at the vet clinic with constant observation and IV fluids. Quoting: Watching the world My dog had blood in her runny stools, and was vomiting a white foamy puke and was drooling. Every test imaginable has been done on her and it has now been concluded that she has a virus $1500.00 later.... This is also confirmed because now my other 2 dogs are now displaying the same symptoms. I live in a very secluded area and my dogs only go out in a fenced in a rea to play and walk. I have tried to keep them separated as much as possible, but apparently this virus is highly contagious. My dogs are always up to date on their shots and have had their heart worm medications on a regular basis. I cook for my dogs, so there is no chance of them being sick from the dog food. AGAIN - signs to look for 1. Drooling and foamy vomit 2. Diarrhea and runny stools 3. Blood in stools 4. Lethargic My Dachshund is feeling some better today, but the other 2 dogs are now starting with the same symptoms. Rodent poison now contains anticoagulant. It causes internal bleeding and slow death. They give them a coagulant shot with potassium to counteract the poison. Does sound like this may be your culprit. |

He was definitely in a lot of pain also. That week we switched his food to "Wellness" puppy & he must have been allergic to something in it(said the vet)...I spent the weekend at the vet & that's all they could figure, a food allergy for $1200 ??-Good luck |

I was also wondering if maybe somehow someone may have thrown something over the fence - however I have searched and searched the area and have found nothing. Lethargic My Dachshund is feeling some better today, but the other 2 dogs are now starting with the same symptoms. Sounds like parvovirus you are right from wiki Signs and symptoms Dogs that develop the disease show symptoms of the illness within 3 to 10 days. The symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea (usually bloody). Diarrhea and vomiting result in dehydration and secondary infections can set in. Due to dehydration, the dog's electrolyte balance can become critically affected. Because the normal intestinal lining is also compromised, blood and protein leak into the intestines leading to anemia and loss of protein, and endotoxins escaping into the bloodstream, causing endotoxemia. Dogs have a distinctive odor in the later stages of the infection. The white blood cell level falls, further weakening the dog. Any or all of these factors can lead to shock and death.[19] The first sign of CPV is lethargy. Usually the second symptoms would be loss of appetite or diarrhea followed by vomiting. |
