In what order do you think people will go down in TEOTWAWKI?

the unprepared will be the most dangerous. once they realize how fucked they are, they will have no problem killing others to feed themselves. they will go insane quickly, with in a week

anyone living in a major city will die faster than those in smaller suburbs or country

just about spot on, i'd say.

I would consider the unprepared to belong to the group of stupid.

OP, I'd say your list is in the right order.

1st to die when the power goes out are those hooked to a machine to live.
After that it will be pandamonium for about 3 months in which there will be a lot of attrition. The die off will begin when people start getting hungry. You have to treat hungry people the same as zombies.

This is why preparing for a zombie apocalypse is actually a good idea.

If you are prepared for a year, where you can totally hide from everyone, you will probably be ok. Just be armed in case someone finds you.

I say the ill first but then the Government.

They'll be hidden in their bunkers, but the earthquakes with get them at some point. If there was justice in this world they would be #1 on this list.

Obviously, any TEOTWAWKI scenario is going to involve a lot of random, dumb luck as in any catastrophe. Some helpless little kid lives because the right person stumbles by to rescue them at the right moment--somebody else who has prepped for years eats some canned beans that went bad and dies of food poisoning, etc...You never know what's going to get you even when times are relatively good.

well that rings of "roll over and die" which i don't abide in. the fact is, prepping and practicing survival skills increase your odds exponentially

STS will go down in droves.

STO will live to see another day for the most part.

It's all a question of where your heart/head is at.

If I would guess 70's up. I work out with a guy 72, 4 days a week starting 0500 for years now. You really wouldn't want to try anything with him. (and he's a cross country coach that leads by example as well as a weight machine bearings melter)

I'm not saying it won't increase your odds.

I'm saying it's not possible to come up with a logical order that people are going to "go down" in some hypothetical chaotic future.

Yeah. My dad is in his 70's and I bet he would be a welcome asset in any survival group. "Old school" knowledge regarding structure and building. He doesn't need no plans or drawings. Or computer programs. He sees it in his mind and he can build it with his hands.

And I learned from him. Old is not a downfall.

You need to post the scenarios and then get the list.

Possible scenarios:

-Global economic meltdown which renders all governments incapable of funding socialist life support systems. Anarchy results

-2012 type scenario where some external driver creates abnormal weather and multiple earth changing catastrophes, aka our solar system crosses the galactic ecliptic and a physical and magnetic pole shift occurs or Planet-X enters the solar system.

-Genetic Armageddon, a virus like Capt. Tripps is accidentally released and a super flue plague wipes out 90% of humanity in a very short period of time. Or, a new species of intrusive life form is created which gets out and begins breeding rapidly and mutating and ascends the food chain.

-Extraterrestrial disclosure, the aliens benignly take over or are found to be hostile and forcibly take over.

Each scenario would dictate a particular kind of survival strategy and have a different outcome.

Thank you both. And as for old--- the older people have already been through tough times in their lives. They have wisdom and experience, which youth do not usually. So I agree we need the older people who have what it takes, even if the younger are the ones who do it.

Apologies but I can't find STS or STO on that glossary, what do they mean?

I say a good chance for long-term survivors includes mothers -- a pissed off mother will do whatever it takes to keep her kids alive -- and poor people, who know how to survive on very little, and how to make do MacGuyver-style when you can't just run out and buy things.

I have a feeling that when some of these youngsters can't eat or power an i-pod, they will be quizing the elders non-stop.

By old I mean those who have been put into nursing homes or those who require in home care, have medication needs and those with no real support systems in place. I'd say in general mid 70's and up. Yes they are wise but are they up to the task of SURVIVAL? In most cases I doubt it. Hell - I don't think most of us are really up to it for an extended period of time. Survival without resources in a friendly environment would be a challenge - in a hostile environment it's going to be tougher than i care to imagine.
