USGS on watch for extreme seismic activity on West Coast
Hey all; By a strange series of accidents, we have been able to help
confirm that Reno has what appears to the USGS as precursor volcanic
activity at the site of the recent earthquakes. We have been advised
by someone claiming personal knowledge that the USGS has withdrawn
their teams from the west coast of this country due to their
considering it some level of emergency situation. I have had the
Reno info confirmed by a source there that was not informed by the
government, even though they are a TV station. Steam and gas is being
vented at the site of the earthquakes in the Verdi/Mogul area, about 5
miles west of Reno.

the worst of it that I was told (by the person that got it from a
friend at the USGS directly, so I am 3rd hand here) is that they are
on a watch for extreme seismic and or volcanic activity for the entire
west coast at this time. The person that I talked to was scared, and
was advised by his friend at the USGS to leave the west coast.

Hope it is all a storm in a teacup, but when FEMA strikes, they end
communication. Please take this for what it is worth, I just
can't not inform you because of what I have heard, and having had
parts of it confirmed.

Peace to everyone!

This is not from me, but via a good friend - this mail went out on Friday May 9th, around 2pm Pacific Time from a friend in Oregon.

Although, like the author, I hope this all is a false alarm - I felt an authenticity to his report, so I am passing it along.

OP,

Can you tell us if there has been any mention of a relationship between what's happening off the Ore. coast with what's happening around Reno?

Thank you for posting this, a wanderer.

I also "have no proof" ~ but I have always felt that the Wasatch Fault (the one involved here) is tied in with volcanoes and with Yellowstone. One big ley line/link. Dunno.

Hi AC,

Sorry, I can't verify anything in the OP - by now, this is fifth-hand info supposedly from USGS 'insiders' whether it is true or not probably even USGS top-insiders couldn't tell you - it's not like they (USGS) was here 10-20,000 years ago when the last big seismic shifts rocked this world - this is all new to EVERYONE on this planet, despite what some would have you believe.

At any rate, I can corroborate this came from a friend-of-a-friend who lives near Bend, OR and can attest that the intelligent, thinking individuals living in the PNW have always been concerned about seismic events and their own safety, so I don't think this is paranoia speaking - just common sense.

I personally feel, yes, the events in Reno have everything to do with upwelling pressure in the Western edge of North America, however only time will tell.

Trust your heart!

Hi Wasayo,

I concur whole-heartedly. Mother Earth is shifting and moving, birth pangs, getting ready to burst forth. Amazing shifts are coming.

I appreciated your info in the LW thread re: the recent May 5 Dark Moon - I believe this is has started an 'opening', if you will.

It is well documented that most major seismic events happen within 3 days of a Full/New moon. There have also been several sources pointing to an 'event' in early June, which would coincide with the next Dark Moon, plus we have a full Moon coming right up.

I would be interested in knowing if you see anything else astrologically.

hf to you!

Considering CalTech in Pasadena, CA (near my old stomping ground), if the head of the USGS essentially, you are saying they evacuated the USGS from Cal Tech? I hope your friend is pulling one over on you, because Lucy, the head seismologist at Cal Tech is not the type of just take off with such a threat.

Re: USGS on watch for extreme seismic activity on West Coast
It looks like the ground has been skakin' up in that area since February!

Here is a link to a 5/9/08 article from a local area newspaper. The story details how local residents are dealing with the ongoing fear from these daily quakes.

[link to www.rgj.com]

There might be something to your contacts information OP, thanks for sharing the details. I doubt the USGS will announce a volcano warning. But if they have left town I wonder if they will mention their departure before, or after, the locals find out their gone. And if they've left the State without even issuing a warning, that would be unreal!!!

Being on the West Coast I have been through plenty of EQ's, including some pretty big ones. I've dealt with aftershocks lasting from days, up to weeks at a time. But for the ground to still be skaking after 3 months! That's kind of crazy, and it's no wonder the residents are all on edge up there.

Nice find on the article.. the comment about post-traumatic stress disorder is extremely revealing - jesus, folks - get the hell out!!!

FYI, I have emailed the original (3rd hand) USGS contact directly with some kind questions to see if I can get any more information. I agree with the other ac above that a full USGS pull-out of the west coast seems a bit far fetched.

I will keep y'all posted.

Re: USGS on watch for extreme seismic activity on West Coast
I just received a response from the person who wrote the OP, here it is:

I can't give out the name. My friend was told by a close and long time friend about what was happening. We are amateurs as well, but being we are expecting a 9 any time here on the Juan de Fuca, we figure everyone will be an amateur before too long!

Read the RGJ story, one of my family in Reno sent it. The sad part is, the government may be putting a hold on the info, as no one has reported the facts yet. It may be a new hotsprings for all we know, but the USGS pulling their people out last Wed doesn't seem to indicate it.

So that is that, I guess now it is just wait-and-see.

GLP Effect, do your thang!

If this is really true, then the USGS and FEMA could be held liable for any deaths from a resulting quake. I hardly think this is the case, and I am not trying to debunk this.

I think everyone has been expecting a subduction quake in the Pac NW for quite a long time, and sooner or later it will surely happen. That being said, no one can effectively predict an earthquake of this magnitude for any given time period.

No one really expected this 7.9 quake in China today, did they?

So what's the deal with these "P" waves? Can you explain a bit about them? I don't think I really understand what they are or what they do...
