Disagree: The "Store" regained the $70. Look at it from the Store point of view. But it was stolen to begin with! You can't add the return of stolen money in as a profit. I did say profit. Part of the stolen 100 was returned. You said the store regained $70 and you counted it as "+$70". That's not how it works. It was a loss to begin with and having it returned to the register in trade for $70 worth of goods is not a profit. Ginseng |

Exactly but I know what he is going for so I selected 200. 130 plus the goods which would be less than the 70 sold for but im pretty sure that's what OP was thinking. The ONLY correct answer is 30 dollars + the stores PRICE on the goods it sold - the profit margin on those goods. Less than a 100 dollars, considerable less. Correct, except we were told, a couple posts from the start, that we were to consider $70 as the cost of the goods. IE no profit. That being the case its $100. |

THEN HE BUYS $70 WORTH OF GOODS FROM THAT STORE & GETS $30 CHANGE. HOW MUCH DID THE STORE LOSE? Quoting: Butch DeFeo For the purpose of this poll, profit margins and other side / fringe related expenses are not taken into consideration. :TRUMPMASKREMOVE: He stole 100 dollars - the profit the store made on the goods he bought. Probably close to 80 dollars or so. Profit is another word for legalized theft, charging more for something than it is worth, so by charging more for something than it is worth, the store is stealing from its customers who accept this as their reality. Very few businesses in America operate on any other principal. Read it and weep, capitalists. Commie found |

The reason this is confusing people is because there are two answers and a lot of people are thinking about from the guys perspective but the question specifically asks it in regards from the stores perspective. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69723309 The two answers are this 1.man’s perspective = he leaves with $100 worth of stuff regardless 2. Store’ perspective = they lost $100 and also lost a $70 item so they lose $170 envision he walked out after the cash theft and handed the dosh to another person who walked back in to purchase.... imagine he walked across the street to buy from another.... business store will be short 100muhttbux always at reconciliation |

Robber enters store and swipes 70 dollars of tampons and condoms for his girlboyfriend. On his way out he points a tampon at the register clerk and demands 30 bucks. He leaves store. He has taken 100 out of the store and the store has lost 100. Robber comes back and points another tampon at clerk and demands a crisp 100 bill. Robber's mom calls to say his sheets and hotpockets are ready so robber gives clerk back the 100 dollar bill and leaves. No change to the register on the second visit. HylonPrep |

The next transaction when the guy walks in with $100 cash in hand to make a purchase of $70 or whatever amount, is a legit transaction.= Legitimate transaction for the store and not a loss there. Could have been anybody holding that $100 bill. In the end, the store's loss is $100 which was stolen at the beginning. |
