Re: Devastating flood damage in Arcadia, Florida
Wow I never expected to see this here! I live on 17 between Punta gorda and Arcadia on the river. Water is highest I've ever seen it and expected to keep rising for another day or so. I'll tell you hurricane Ian rocked our reality. So so much devastation and it keeps on coming. Eating home canned food heated up by sterno cans tho. Did pretty decent there in the preps. Just since I'm way out in the country no power for weeks. Work still expects us to come in but not having gas is threatening that. Not much left to deliver mail to now anyway. Here's a bill for your mortgage of the house you no longer have kinda doesn't seem right. Glad to get folks their much needed medications tho.

Trying to cope. Just so so overwhelmed. No generator. No gas. No bank no cash. Everything has to be bought in cash. No ATMs and my local bank was destroyed. Just glad I'm alive. My family is alive. That's all that matters. So sad for those who aren't.

You sound just like the kind of folk that weatherman, Ryan Hall's 'Ya'll Squad' is actively seeking -right now- to be put in touch with for immediate, direct non-government aid during this tough recovery time.

After the tragic floods in Kentucky, Ryan's Ya'll Squad bought thousands of dollars worth of food and necessities that they loaded on trucks and personally delivered to the flood victims. He's in Kentucky.
I think that they also give out money to those who have lost the means to make an income, to help them bridge the interim gap before Federal funds come?

I watched his storm broadcast of Ian, and 100% all the proceeds from sales on his site during the broadcast are going to support special circumstance needs -like yours.
Ryan specifically stated on the broadcast that they already have a lot of funds to distribute especially to the those that FEMA and State aid groups may not reach quickly or at all.

I'm just a RyanHallYa'll YouTube subscriber and haven't participated in his chat, don't do Twitter or Facebook, so I'm not the person to be a go between for you.
Perhaps someone else who's on Twitter or Facebook can assist if you don't do social media?

Anyway, I'm being totally sincere in saying that Ryan's Ya'll Squad WANTS to hear from you and help you with replacing lost preps and more.
They may even help you with a generator if you ask?

I highly encourage you to reach out to Ryan yourself, and simply tell him your storm story and ask if they can assist with your immediate/near future needs.

Good luck, good Sir!

Thank you! Yeah I left a comment on that video but I know there are people worse off than us that need it. Besides, it's hard to find someone like yourself online who is nice and friendly. I'm on social media but Usually don't say too much since people are so mean and want to dox you. I don't need anymore negativity right now. People just don't get what we are going thru until they've lived it.

Anyway aside from that, I'm going to try to get into town today to see if any atms opened. Or maybe someone will buy my silver coins? Lol jk. Making sausage and potatoes now on the sterno cans. Hoping not to lose everything in the freezer. My neighborhood might need to have a community cookout. Just wondering if I can even leave right now since it's only one way in to here and the water drains over the road there. Haven't seen hardly any traffic today so it's concerning.

I'll reach out to him but like I said there are people worse off. Maybe we can help them..the people out here in the country who have to go further for the distribution sites. Hard with little gas. I remember the gas lines from Charley but not well enough to experience it again now. Just overwhelmed. Especially when work still wants us to report and I had to try 2 hours to get there yesterday because so many roads were closed. Used up so much gas

.

Glad you are okay.

I am annoyed that the media is showing the same drone footage and scenes of Ft Myers and ignoring Arcadia. Arcadia needs help ASAP. I think I saw 65 rescues, but probably more. Heartbreaking to see the floating campers, trucks and cars. There are a lot of redneck jokes, but the town is also filled with hard working people.

Thank you. Are you local too? Very surprised to see our small town on front page here so thank you! I live between Punta gorda and Arcadia on 17 that is washed out so I care so much about both. This has been my hometown for 12 years. Glad to see our community coming together and so many from so far away coming to help. Unfortunately someone tried to take advantage of me and my neighbors yesterday already. Wanted to charge $700 to remove 1 tree! No thanks!

My supervisor is stuck in the flooding in Arcadia. She probably had to be rescued too. Another coworker got flooded in north port on the myakka. Just so much damage so far and wide from Ian

My mom used to tell me that all of Florida is nothing but a sand bar.

Too many people there now....too much weight on the land...or the sand if you will. Wash outs and sink holes.

My family lived on AMI.

Seems like the majority are criticizing the victims of this hurricane as a bunch of wealthy elitists, ignoring the working poor who make up a large percentage of the population. It's my experience that the poor are more generous with their time and resource than the wealthy, so I am not a fan of discrimination based on socio-economic status. I also live in the third world and don't like the derogatory comments about people based upon the country of their birth, as if they chose to be born into poverty.

You sound like a very kind person. Your community is lucky to have someone like you. Many blessinsg your way.

Couldn't pay me enough to live in Florida. It's great to visit but it's mostly all sea-level and some parts below sea level. No thanks!

I do feel for the people that are caught in those floods and have to seek out shelters.

And do not live in the forest, or next to a forest. He was always spot on .

Sooo, you live on a stone mountain, with no forest nearby. You have to hike quite a distance to go fishing or to see natural springs of any sort? Do you have any grass, or do you live on pavement? OR you live in a city , in the middle of the country, NOT near any form of water or def not near the coast. Which is it??

Been there.

Hippie town.

So much for escaping to the sunny south!

As they say, "nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there".

If there is any 'there' there anymore.

Re: Devastating flood damage in Arcadia, Florida
I've lived in hurricane country for half a century..both NC and Fla. I picked my current home near Deland (between Orl and Daytona) because it's stood through every storm since 1890. Lost power for 2 days..up yesterday morning. Still no internet but have cell service..otherwise...

The house is fine, no flooding, no wind damage outside of some tree limbs and palm fronds. Something to be said about old homes..built much better than the cheap, poorly planned homes of today. Feel blessed and praying for all those who lost so much...

Even just 2 days without power was stressful though we did have a generator.

Glad to hear you're okay.

I'm in swfl.

Only place with fresh proteins has been Publix.

7eleven for gas.

Both companies have their hurricane aftermath plans intact.

If you buy in Florida stick to the Lake Wales ridge area, decent elevation. The ridge runs over 100 miles.

Do NOT buy any used cars from Florida. Or mobile homes. Or RVs, shit is guaranteed flooded out.

That’s foolish. You don’t know Florida. Many parts of Florida experienced no flooding from Ian.

How did the area around 761 fare? We used to live in the neighborhood behind the convenience store there. Have tried to check in on some former neighbors but no one has gotten back to us yet. :-(

I'm just a few miles from 761. Wind damage is horrible up here as the eye went over us. Again. The fish camp literally had trailers on their top wheels up and others looked like they exploded. It's bad. I didn't go any further north that that. I've heard 761 is unpassible and so is 17 to nocatee but can't personally verify it
