Anonymous Coward User ID: 80643549 United States 10/02/2022 01:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Too bad Arcadia wasn't wiped off the map. This is the town that harmed me in every way imaginable. I have been here for 15 years talking about Arcadia, FL. Unfortunately, the only real damage was to homes near the river. I've watched several videos that show no damage east of the river. Please do not ever come back, Arcadia. Just call it a day. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80098990 France 10/02/2022 02:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow I never expected to see this here! I live on 17 between Punta gorda and Arcadia on the river. Water is highest I've ever seen it and expected to keep rising for another day or so. I'll tell you hurricane Ian rocked our reality. So so much devastation and it keeps on coming. Eating home canned food heated up by sterno cans tho. Did pretty decent there in the preps. Just since I'm way out in the country no power for weeks. Work still expects us to come in but not having gas is threatening that. Not much left to deliver mail to now anyway. Here's a bill for your mortgage of the house you no longer have kinda doesn't seem right. Glad to get folks their much needed medications tho. Quoting: MailSlinger 84015735 Trying to cope. Just so so overwhelmed. No generator. No gas. No bank no cash. Everything has to be bought in cash. No ATMs and my local bank was destroyed. Just glad I'm alive. My family is alive. That's all that matters. So sad for those who aren't. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80643549 I think I may have seen your posts here. Arcadia is/was the Devils playground to me. I grew up in SWFL but have been to Arcadia many times. Its no place for a little girl to go to. I saw some things there. The place we may have in common is now abandoned. God was trying to wash away this town IMHO. |

User ID: 78212432 United States 10/02/2022 03:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Even though this is a 500 year event (the degree of flooding), this is why Florida has all of the water and wetlands that it has. That beautiful, natural, environment has been formed from hurricanes, storm surges, tropical storms and massive amounts of rain for who knows how long (1000s of years?). While people are suffering from this catastrophe, the natural environment is severely damaged for probably centuries because of all of the man made debris blown and shattered all over hell and gone. No way to clean that up. Glass, aluminum, steel, plastic, toxic fluids and materials, etc, in massive amounts, is piled up everywhere you look. It's terrible. Most of Florida should not even be developed. It's such a unique ecosystem and not all that big compared to the rest of country and people are moving there in droves because it's a free state with a red pilled governor. I can totally relate to that but the state is grossly over developed and it's terribly sad to see not just the lives, homes and towns destroyed but that natural environment which is home to so many unique species of animals and plants. Mother nature is nothing to fight with. Those RV's could of been towed out of the area. People who have boats could of secured them better. 3 or 4 anchor points and enough weight would have not let them drift from their anchorage. But it is people who have homes and flooded out who suffered the most. Never mind the toys. Home is where you go when you have a bad day. Home is where you seek comfort. People build houses in the woods and love the privacy and the sandy trails, and creeks to go canoeing. Then that once in 50 years fire starts blazing, after a lightning strike on dry pine needles, and its all over. Last Edited by Prayandprepare000 on 10/02/2022 10:56 AM |

It would be bad if one of the really tall trees came down toward my house, but it's more likely than a forest fire. "Flooding" here only happens in places that never should have been built in. Just like in Florida. My favorite near here is a place once named "Impassable Morass" on the map, because of the wide and floody swamp. Today it is humorously named "Highland". That's what developers do. Nothing shall be so certain as to permit confusion. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 83989471 United States 10/02/2022 11:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've lived in hurricane country for half a century..both NC and Fla. I picked my current home near Deland (between Orl and Daytona) because it's stood through every storm since 1890. Lost power for 2 days..up yesterday morning. Still no internet but have cell service..otherwise... The house is fine, no flooding, no wind damage outside of some tree limbs and palm fronds. Something to be said about old homes..built much better than the cheap, poorly planned homes of today. Feel blessed and praying for all those who lost so much... Even just 2 days without power was stressful though we did have a generator. |
