This guy explained storm surge yesterday in his 5pm video. VERY interesting. He explained there is a BIG difference between the east coast and the west coast of Florida. West coast storm surge is bad. If the hurricane slows down, storm surge gets worse.

Yeah certainly not an ERC, but its clear it spun up very quick this morning and then quickly leveled off.. probably core going through slight re-organization... I expect it to ramp back up this afternoon pretty quickly.

Storm surge is nothing to mess with. People don’t understand that the hurricane sucks tons of water out of the bays and coastal areas and when the eye passes overhead people can walk out onto dry land that would normally be 6’ high water.

Once the eye passes, the back end of the storm dumps all those millions of gallons of water back into the area and it surges back. If the hurricane is strong it can cause a small tsunami for 4+ miles inland.

Had Irma in 2017 not weakened there would’ve been a 9’ storm surge for 4 miles inland. Most coastal areas are at or a few feet above sea level. It would’ve been devastating.
