At one stage when crossing the Rockies - they resorted to eating their stock of candles made from animal fat.

They ate a lot of elk or wapati. They also were eating their horses because the men wanted meat not plants.

As they headed into the mountains and game became more scarce they ate the Indian diet which is full of fiber. They all got the shitz. Lewis almost had a mutiny on his hands, so he let the men eat some horses.

Re: What did the Lewis & Clark Expedition eat on their two year journey?
I've read the Journal. They had pemmican, any sorts of game they could get, Indian potatoes (very carby), nuts, biscuit rations till they ran out, fish. The reason Keto works to help people lose weight is that without carbs, you can't maintain weight well.

Indian potatoes are kind of rare now, but back then, not so rare. Apios americana, if you want to look them up. Some people call them Groundnuts. And it might interest OP that these Indian potatoes are a distant relative of the SOYBEAN.

So the answer to the poll is ALL of the above.

Lewis even had a B.B. Gun! Really!

 Quoting: ThirstyMarlin!

The Gerondani (spelling from memory) rifle was not a BB-gun. The thing scared Indians so badly that they left the expedition alone.
 Quoting: Icebear

They were an air rifle. They were quiter than the standard issue gunpowder guns. THE INDIANS WERE SCARED BECAUSE THEY WERE THE AR-15 OF THE DAY, 22 ROUNDS IN 60 SECONDS.

Girardoni Air Rifle: ". The guns had a magazine capacity of 22 round balls, which could all be fired within 60 seconds. The balls were .46 caliber, weighing approximately 153 grains, and were propelled at 400-450 feet per second. They were rumored to be silent, but actually had a loud report (although quieter than gunpowder firearms)"

I don't know what they ate, but when they finally got to the Oregon coast, they found that all the natives of both sexes and all ages, went naked all the time.

You see, this is an example of just how far
our society as degenerated.
Entertainment, Media, Politics, Education, etc,.
MIND CONTROL

Fact is, there just weren't that many of 'them' back then.
This is relatively new in society, especially now.

On another Thread today (about the 80's) a common theme
in the comments was, "None, maybe one, but that's it."
And that's the truth from my own high school experience too.
I didn't know ANY...until I heard a rumor or two.

Brokeback Mountain (I never watched it) is a movie made for
guys who LIKE other guys.
[GLP is being difficult today, what words may I use Trinity?]
Excuse me, but I cannot find an acceptable name not CENSORED
by GLP.
This is bullshit!
I can't post on my own thread?

'They' also want us think that all cowboys like licking salami.
As in Midnight Cowboy, he sucks for a few bucks.
In a dirty public bathroom.
That's New York.
Something has changed.
Such as Drag Queen Story Hour

So, what do healthy guys do to relieve sexual energy?
Do we ask our buddies to rub us off off?
Is that even a thought that ever crosses my mind?

No.
Never.
Plain and simple.
I'd fight to the death before I get on my knees.
Really.

I'll just take a little walk to find a private place
because you don't want to get caught
with your woody in hand.
Women motivate men.
I mean the hot, sexy ones.
Okay, let me try that again.

I would (I did) journey a long haul, in really foul
weather, in the dark, on a mission, like a buck in heat...
To go see a girl.
Leave me alone.
I'm thinking about her now...
And what do you know?
That just made my dick move!

The men were literally starving to death by only eating meat

You need 30% protein
30% fat
30% carbohydrates for a survival diet
 Quoting: Justsayno

yea, a 100% Mule and Horse meat diet is not too good but a little better than going the Long Pork route which was probably next on the menu when all the horse meat was gone 1rof1
would rather have it & not need it then need it & not have it

Meat has fat in it,
and you can survive just fine on a meat diet.
AND BE HEALTHY.
A few carbs from berrys and other fruits and
plants and you are HEALTHY AS KING KONG.

YOU DO NOT NEED CARBS,
BUT YOU DO NEED MEAT,
or a substitute for the essential
amino acids that meat provides,
and your body CANNOT produce.

Foods that contain all nine essential
amino acids are called complete proteins.
These foods include beef, poultry, fish,
eggs, dairy, soy, quinoa and buckwheat.

Re: What did the Lewis & Clark Expedition eat on their two year journey?
The "bb gun" that Lewis carried was a primary reason the expedition was able to pass through 100s of Indian tribes. When they encountered a new tribe Lewis would demonstrate the Girandoni Repeating air rifle he purchased with his own money. He would position a 1" thick board a 100 yards away. Then he would fire 20, 46 caliber bullets in less than 2 minutes, and they all penetrated the board. Needless to say, the Indians were impressed with the massive firepower, and assumed that the entire party was armed with the same weapon.

They survived on crickets and the occasional frog legs.

Re: What did the Lewis & Clark Expedition eat on their two year journey?
One of the things Clark left out of his journal were the dozens of FRENCH TOWNS they visited and bought supplies from.

The French had settlements along the Missouri River since the Mid 17th century and Clark never mentioned them because their existence made a mockery of his "exploration" narrative.

It's kind of absurd to claim you are exploring while you're buying supplies at a French market in a town where the Catholic graveyard has 4 generations in it.

It wasn't until they reached the Rocky Mountains ( roughly 2/3 of the way into his voyage ) that they stopped sailing past French towns.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83206515

This is true. L&C drew heavily on the previous explorations of French traders and all of the boatmen on the expedition were Quebecois and Metis.

In short, Canadians.

They ate their own horses when game was scarce. Although they much preferred the dogs they obtained from the indians.

Re: What did the Lewis & Clark Expedition eat on their two year journey?
meat for survival is very different
than a fat-ass obese human-elephant eating
the meal of 20 humans.
every single meal with pieces of some dead animal.

the prices these fat fuckers are paying
to eat animals, you can probably feed 100 starving humans beings for a week.

no one is eating meat for survival now.
it is just addiction run amok

how many fucking chicken wings do you need to eat
a human now eats the wings of about 30 birds in one sitting

humans are the worst fucking animals ever to appear on earth
if we are considering the destruction of other life on earth.

the level of greed and short-sightedness
is leading to non-stop killing of humans, animals, babies,
whatever to fulfill the little greedy brain

Fish, mostly fish.

True, but a little know fact is that even the Native Americans considered fish the lowest form of sustenance, down there with rodents like squirrel and beaver. They would only eat it when deer, bison, elk, etc., were unavailable.

Re: What did the Lewis & Clark Expedition eat on their two year journey?
TOFU!!

Really, TOFU!!

It was a big thing back then to be a Vegetarian who only ate plant based food.

Tofu can be delightfully made into man appetizing dishes, and that is what REAL MEN eat, not sissy stuff like Meat or Fish!

Obvously the men of the Lewis and Clark Expediation were REAL MEN ... so there is no way they would stoop to eating meat or fish or other non plant foods.

And you ask ... where did they get the Tofu that they ate?

Glad you asked. Amazon would drop off a load of Tofu every couple of days for them so they were never out of Tofu for their entire trip.

The one mistake they made was they didn't update their trip to the rest of the country via daily YouTube uploads.

That was on purpose ... so they could build suspense so their show at the end of the trip would get STUPENDOUS RATINGS!! HOWEVER they really missed out on the Residual Payments deal that would have paid them LOADS of money if they had just done daily uploads to YouTube instead of waiting to the end of their trip. Sure by waiting they became famous, but they would have been (imo) just as famous and made MORE money if they had just agreed to do daily YouTube updates.

Quite a trip ... and quite an endorsement for Tofu as your food of choice!!
