A really thrifty person doesn't eat out, instead cooks and uses store brand condiments. They find a campground and camp in a tent, or plan their trips so that every night they are staying with a different relative or friend. Just saying - I grew up with really thrifty parents. You learn the real tricks. My mother shopped at garage sales for Christmas presents. She rinsed and reused her coffee filters. The parents didn't run HVAC into the upstairs, so we literally slept in rooms that were sometimes below freezing. And you put the water in the soap well before it is empty. LOL! Yeah, we never eat out. You can buy 4 times the amount of the same food at grocery stores and make it at home. And you won't get sick. Thrifty David Horrowitz taught us that. I don't buy coffee filters, I use a mesh strainer that sits on the mug. And just cause something comes in a bigger size or in bulk, does not mean it's a better deal. By cooking at home, at least I know who spit in my food. Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. “They’ve got us surrounded again, the poor bastards.” - U.S. Army Paratrooper at Bastogne |

Why pay for salt, pepper, mustered, and ketchup when it is everywhere. I have bags and bags of condiments, and plastic eating utensil. I reuse my plastic bottles as well several times. Use my used dryer sheets to clean the shower and tub. It great for getting off soap scum. I put my coffee Gounds in the garden along with most kitchen scraps. I have used coffee can plastic lids, carboard, and a glue gun to patch the bottom of my kids shoes Painted stained clothing to use shirts longer in public. I shop often at the good will. clothing size 0-6 is plentiful, because kids outgrow their clothes. So, a lot of style and selection. Except for by couches and mattresses all my furniture is used and handed down. Lately, I discovered the Amazon outlet stores. OMG... heaven! Except that as the random stuff comes in it is almost full price until more stuff is expected in and the deals get good and you get to haggle. But when you go, you make a whole day of it hunting for good finds in large bins and you have to be careful not to buy stuff you don't need. |

User ID: 79117124 United States 01/23/2022 08:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My family eats fast food about 10 times per month for Fast Food Fridays weekly, Little Creasers $6.99 pizza sporadically as schedule calls for, and first of the month Subway Sundays. We take advantage all day of Veteran Day specials and traditionally start with I-Hop in the morning. It is a great time for me to start my Christmas shopping with all the discounts. What my family is really bad at is not unplugging chargers, not turning off lights, leaving fans running, over all just using too much power. I grew up with parents that would freak out over-power usage. We had HVAC and all my life I thought it was broken, until I was about 18 years old and one day my dad decided the house was too cold and turned it on. I was shocked! It was my job to have the fire going everyday after school for when my parents got home. Our rooms were freezing except the family room. I refuse to put my kids through that if I don't have too. |

Love the large framed mirror and super comfy chairs in excellent condition. Encourage neighbors to collect the clothing in top condition and donate it to charity. I gather the blown down, dried out palm fronds for my fireplace. Plenty of free scrap wood and junk mail to acquire too. Neighbors of my huge condo complex just turn up the gas and question my thriftiness. Oh well, no one has an herb & veggie garden on their patio either. |

User ID: 79267566 United States 01/23/2022 10:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I drive a 27 year old Ford. I buy all of my vehicles used, and drive them until they either get totaled by a jerk on the road, or they finally die, and go to the car boneyard. I use only a few coupons, as a lot of the items the coupons are for over priced brand names. I hunt the reduced goods aisle with my grocery list first, and get as much as I can of my list from there. You can use coupons for marked down items. I have got items for free several times, or for a penny ! I always check out the reduced meats. I got herb encrusted chicken breast stuffed with asparagus for half price. We had them for dinner today. All of my household furnishings, even towels, sheets, dishes, pot and pans, etc, are from thrift shops. The only exception was the sofa. I bought it new at a furniture outlet store, to replace the one my husband passed away on. It was on sale, a floor sample, so it was reasonably priced. All of our clothes are from thrift shops, and they are all new or like new, and fashionable. Why pay a fortune for 1 item of clothing new from a retail store, when you can go to a thrift shop and literally get a whole new or like new wardrobe for what you would pay for 1 item at a regular store? I grow some of my own veggies and fruits, make my own pickles, jams, and jelly. Nearly all of my canning supplies are from the thrift shops too. I home cook most meals. We go out for a meal maybe once every 2 weeks. Got to treat us once in a while. I never have had a pay TV service. I don't watch TV, except when we are under severe weather warnings. It's unplugged.I am a big reader, and get my books at thrift shops for as little as $1 for a bagful. I have a basic flip phone.$30 a month unlimited text and calls. I have bottom of the line internet, for $9.95 a month. I pick change off the floor when I am out shopping or running errands. I find, on average, about $100 a year in change. The most I found in one year, was slightly over $300. You can live thrifty, and still live real good. It just takes a little effort, but it is worth it ! 23rd Psalm |
