oh no its public alright, the blockchain ledger contains all details of all transactions ever made, none of its a secret, folks were relying on made up usernames on various sites etc but if the sites get busted its not hard to align usernames with wallet owners etc.

"Unclaimed BTC" has been claimed for the past couple years, about $50-100m per month. The only way it's getting claimed is if someone has the ability to find the private key from the public address.
