Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2020. It's happening.. again! (Final Update status on P.31)

It’s happening again people!! ‘Tis the Season.

Dear friends, the past years we had a Giveaway Thread, that made Christmas a bit better for those who needed it most. It started in 2017 with a Gift Card Giveaway by St3v3 and followed by others like Javierruiz, Zalinsky, Cosmicgypsy, Truthserum. Beautiful people. The past years continued this tradition with much appreciated help from Javierruiz, Kamchatka, Arnie, miabelieves, SkinnyChic, immadonna, Windsage and other awesome (anonymous) contributors. Please forgive me if I forgot someone here.

We are going through unprecedented times. Times that impact all of us in a big way. Jobs lost, health issues, lost loved ones, making this Christmas a very emotional one for many. Many of us have their story to tell. I myself haven’t been able to find a job in my field, causing some pressure, but I know many, many had and have it much worse, mentally and financially and struggle to put food on the table, not only at Christmas, but day after day. Let alone being able to buy their kids and loved ones the tiniest gift for their birthday or with holidays like these.

Our society has again become even tougher, colder, more individual and divisive and I must admit it was a struggle for me to decide whether we should do this Giveaway again, seeing the hate and division toward each other on GLP these days as well, but friends convinced me that especially in challenging times like these we need to spread light to those who need it most. Not everything and everyone is bad. Even though the media would like us to believe that, the contrary is still true. There is much more good than bad. People sometimes act completely away from their core when they are fired up by all that surrounds us these days, not following their instinct, but what is being fed.

So let’s at least try to reflect on that and attempt to find a little belief in humanity back again. I know these are just little gestures in the big picture, but my goal has always been to spread some encouragement and let people see that humanity is still far superior to politics, color, lifestyle, religion, anything. If we can restore that belief, even for a brief moment and make people see that in our own circle of influence we can make a difference, no matter if that is by words, food, money or a shoulder, I am convinced we are making our world a better place again and move back a little closer to our core.

So in that light, let’s continue our tradition this year!!

With the generous help of some beautiful souls who choose to stay anonymous we have again saved up some funds to help those who can use it most. If there are others who want to contribute, feel free to email or message me here and I will share my PayPal with you. The reason I don’t share it publicly is to avoid giving the impression I am doing this for my own gain, which can not be further from the truth. Any contribution, how big or small, is very much and equally appreciated and will go straight to those who need it most. But let me be clear, there is no obligation whatsoever. All of you who post positive, encouraging messages here are contributors in my book.

We like to spread the funds to as many people as possible. Through PayPal preferably. But I also have an Amazon Prime membership, with free shipping for many items, so if you for example create a wish list there with some presents for your kids or loved ones, that would work too. Please keep it at max $40 to $50 per wish list per family.

Please also understand that I am not a millionaire and neither are the other contributors. In fact, this year I have been struggling to handle my bills just as much as many of us. This money has been saved up throughout the year by squeezing budgets and comes from the heart, not the size of our wallets. That means that once the budget has been exhausted, the Giveaway will end. I understand this might cause disappointment once that moment arrives, but we can not make it any better than it is. As much as we would love to help everyone, it simply is not possible to spend more than the available funds.

There might also be voices that say that this gesture will be abused, that people should crawl out of the hole that they dug themselves, that everyone makes their own bed. To you I will say that your words have no place or meaning here and those posts will be removed. This is a thread about giving and caring, not about doubt or blame.

Anyway, having said that, feel free to post a Christmas song or a heartfelt thought of encouragement or happiness, even if you don’t need anything. I know music and words also have a soothing or cheering effect on all of us.

Was laid off due to Covid in July, unemployment is almost gone. Will be searching for a new home sometime in January. If I don't get back to work by then, it'll be at the shelter. :(

Okay, sorry for appearing so slow, but just had a one hour session emails going. Will be back in a few to reply to posts here, have to eat something first.

I don't have any money to spare. I have been selling things and giving things away around here, to clear out this old house, and find another place to live that is safe and affordable.

Hello OP! I was thinking about writing to you for few hours and finally decided to this. Well... my situation isn't good. For the last few years I live having big money debt. Why? Well, I was young, stupid, I thought that I own this life. I opened small company, bankrupted many months later. During that time I was so much in stress that my health got worse. My fiancee left me, I was all alone with debts, bad health and zero hope. For few years I was living like a ghost. And it struck me - alcohol. I got addicted :(
I could go on and on but I will try not to bore you. For few years I had so many thoughts, bad one, good one. And I knew there is no hope for me. Yeah, sucidal thoughts. I don't wish anyone the shit I've been.
Anyway, I was praying to God to help me, this one time. And nothing. At least I thought that God didn't answer me.

Few months later, when I was at the bottom, with so many debts that I couldn't buy even food (and somehow I was finding way to get drunk) - I meet one guy, older man. We started talking, and he said that he is alcoholic but he doesn't drink for more than 20 years. I asked 'What? You are not drinking for 20 years and you are saying that you are alcoholic?'.
We started talking, he said that he is going to AA meetings every few weeks. One day I went with him.

AND?

I am sober for 4.5 years :) For 4 years and 7 months I didn't drink even small beer. Nothing. Meanwhile I met a girl, we are together for 1 year. I couldn't be happier.

I have a job, nothing giving me a lot of money but it's still a job. Every month I am paying off some of my debts but in this tempo I will pay everything in 10 years, maybe...

Would be nice to live without debts but I accepted that nobody will pay everything for me. That's fine.

I got second chance and I did everything to make my life better and I am happy with that!
