The Prisoner is a 1967 British science fiction-allegorical television series about an unidentified British intelligence agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village, where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job.[2] It was created by Patrick McGoohan and George Markstein with McGoohan playing the main role of Number Six.[3] Episodes covered various plots from spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory and psychological drama.[4] It was produced by Everyman Films for distribution by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment company.[4]

A single season of 17 episodes was filmed between September 1966 and January 1968 with Portmeirion in north Wales standing in for the Village and interior shots filmed at MGM-British Studios in Borehamwood. The series was first broadcast in Canada beginning on 6 September 1967, then in the UK on 29 September 1967, and in the US on 1 June 1968.[5] Although the show was sold as a thriller in the mould of the previous series starring McGoohan, Danger Man (1960–68; retitled as Secret Agent in the US), its combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surrealistic setting had a far-reaching influence on science fiction and fantasy TV programming, and on narrative popular culture in general.[6] Since its release the series has developed a cult following.[7]

A six-part TV miniseries remake aired on the US cable channel AMC in November 2009.[8] In 2016 Big Finish Productions reinterpreted the series as an audio drama.[9]

Loved that show as a kid. Very avant-garde for the time.

I remember lots of amazing 'ITV' & 'THAMES TELEVISION' TV shows as a kid, on cable television, here in America but I had never seen this one before. It is totally amazing. So cutting edge for it's time & top notch quality production. I stumbled upon this website this past weekend that is resurrecting lots of old tv shows that haven't been seen in awhile. I watched many episodes of ABC tv's comedy troupe "Fridays" which ran for 3 seasons until Ted Koppel's "Nightline" show sidelined it, even though it was a hit tv show. The 'Iranian Hostage Situation' took over and we lost a great comedy show as a result. Nightline reported the situation every single night & "Fridays" was sacrificed for it.

Me too. LOVED THe Prisoner - I was about 12 when it came out. Never missed it. Great show, great actor (I loved McGoohan in Secret Agent too - both my mom and I had crushes on him), great concept.

The Invaders was the other show I loved that year and I swear that both of them really happened. We're all living in The Village and it's run by ALIENS.

So profound. Number Six is The Prisoner, kept in a globalist Village prison, apparently especially for retired, resigned, outed spies. From the episode, The Chimes of Big Ben:

I'm also a big fan of The Prisoner- enjoyed the updated version with Jim whatshisface as well. My interpretation of it is as a Gnostic allegory- 6 being the number of man obviously, number 2 representing the demiurge (duality) who has mankind trapped in his creation, a species with amnesia. Rover symbolises the moon (known as the eater of souls) hence its appearance before each character's death.

The Matrix was also a Gnostic allegory imo.

yes we are all prisoners here.. even our elites, but their pampered place in existence belies their senses and causes them to believe otherwise.. think Dracula before the final awareness of the futility of it all.

It's funny, I wouldn't have known this as a kid, but when the grocer in episode 1 says "Be Seeing You" (the phrase everyone says when they part with someone) he circles his eye creating a 1 eye Illuminati sign. It might seen as the 666 OK sign as well. Very subtle but interesting to see the gesture in 1967 in this show about global totalitarianism.

My suggestion is to watch what is being said in the media in the coming months about the advancements of ah.hi. and the dirt being exposed in the political parties. If every politician stinks with corruption, perhaps ah.hi. will become a viable option.
