Tonga is gonna Geta heck of a storm.

Well it took a bit but I made a clearing to get out of my house quite a bit of debris was blocking the entrance. One neighboring house just about totally (80%) destroyed but all there are OK. That must have been what I thought was someones roof blowing off.

I'm at ASPA (Local Power company) now helping at the "War Room"

Destruction is heavy throughout the island, no fatality reports yet.

Power is slowly being restored to emergency services 1st.

This island is trashed.

Grounded Wreck Breaks Up off American Samoa

The Chui Zai Fa No. 1, the Taiwanese longliner that went aground in American Samoa on Monday, has broken up in the surf zone off Leone Bay, Tutuila.

The Coast Guard estimates that the 88-foot fishing vessel had as much as 30,000 gallons of diesel on board at the time it went onto the reef, based on its estimated tank capacity. Light sheening has been reported in the vicinity of the wreck.

Responders were not able to address the spill on Friday because of the approach of Tropical Cyclone Gita. As of Friday afternoon, the storm's center was about 55 nm to the south of the Independent State of Samoa (west of American Samoa) and moving east-southeast at 15 knots. Maximum sustained winds at Tutuila are expected to peak Friday at 50 knots, with gusts to 60 knots.

Most of the island is still without power, water service has been restored. Boil water notice in effect however.

Winds are still hitting 30-45 mph making recovery a PITA for the line (T & D) crews from ASPA at least the rain has let up.

I'm going back into work at the SW war room in a bit, I'm actually looking forward to having a hot cup of coffee this morning while I'm there. I may get out for a bit to estimate storm debris, I'll grab some photos.


No Idea when my power at home will be back on. I hope it happens before the wind decreases as it's 80 degrees here at night.

I did see quite a few homes destroyed and many roofs missing yesterday, so far no Fatalities reported that's good news, considering the amount of damage done it is a blessing.

Going to help where I can now, have a blessed Shabbat.

Trump declares state of emergency for American Samoa

President Trump signed an emergency declaration for American Samoa Sunday evening after the South Pacific islands were hit by Tropical Storm Gita last week.

Trump's declaration allows the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to coordinate disaster relief efforts.

Tropical Storm Gita caused some damage to buildings and widespread power outages early Saturday, a day after making its nearest pass to the islands. The port and airport in Pago Pago were closed Friday because of the storm.
