These packs are not dirt cheap, please share with everyone. This thread is to help people who may want to be pro-active, as many of us believe this stuff will get worse. Answer: No it's not rated for that No, but it would slow it down. Depends also what is inside the pack. In my kids case, that would be textbooks, which would also help. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75520700 United States 10/06/2017 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hello people. :) Quoting: Lady Jane Smith If you are not already aware of this product-- Guard Dog backpacks, give it a look. They have bulletproof plates in the lining. Our entire family carries these to events, airports, and my kids carry them to school. They are also well made, and have endured the abuse that kids dish out quite nicely. No, they are not body armor, but could have saved a couple lives in Las Vegas if people had them. I am not interested in debating anyone on these. Chat among yourselves, if you wish. This thread is just to spread info. [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] THANK YOU |

User ID: 74908232 United States 10/06/2017 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | These are a good idea especially if you need a backpack anyway. Remember though that most bullet proof vests (even the actual purpose made vests that cops wear) are rated for handgun rounds up to .44 magnum. That is a lot of protection, but it will not stop a rifle round. Not discouraging this at all. Just know what you are buying. These would be great for most situations as most attackers using firearms use handguns and attacks using rifles are pretty rare. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

(OP) Forum Administrator 10/06/2017 10:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They don't allow backpacks in events in NC. Hmmm .... must be different in different places. Then, the above posters suggestion of purchasing plates is a good idea. They could be placed in a purse, or a jacket too maybe, I suppose. Guess you would just have to be creative in NC. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75351992 United States 10/06/2017 10:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | However, one of the questions asked: Quoting: Oaken Paw Would this stop a high velocity rifle bullet? Answer: No it's not rated for that Rifle plates are heavy, most kids would hate lugging it around by itself, let alone with books. One could get ceramic plates, but kids would break them, rendering them moot. "Most" of the time, it's a pistol used anyway. Frankly. Even with rifle plates, unless you knew where this shooter was, and knew where to position your plate between yourself and the shooter; it wouldn't of done much good, other than random chance defection. Continuing. Even in the best circumstance, without the plate being canted toward the ground, and or, having an adequate lining, the spawling(ejecta from the round exploding on the plate) would be sent toward the base of your skull.. So, over all, having a book-bag purpose built for the task sounds like a better plan. Unless your handy with a thread and needle, and want to enforce a normal pack with some Kevlar around the top, and a pad to ensure the plate in angled downward.. But what do I know, I'm just some crazy on the inter-webs. |

(OP) Forum Administrator 10/06/2017 10:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I see people wear packs all the time what do you carry in those full time? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75438434 Everything I need to carry daily fits in my BDUs. I don't carry it full time, my kids pretty much do. I have a mom purse, and now I may get a plate for it. I am also almost always carrying too -- although that would have done NOTHING to help in LV. Well, off to the gym for a couple hours. Carry on sharing info.
