They have bulletproof plates in the lining. Our entire family carries these to events, airports, and my kids carry them to school. They are also well made, and have endured the abuse that kids dish out quite nicely. No, they are not body armor, but could have saved a couple lives in Las Vegas if people had them. I am not interested in debating anyone on these. Chat among yourselves, if you wish. This thread is just to spread info. [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] Thanks for sharing, LJS! I have a couple of full rigs, but have put off getting a daily backpack... until now. Thanks for the reminder. |

A stalker ex employee psycho path. We also bought the kids those bullet proof clipboard looking things to place in the back of their backpacks. Cannot remember what they are called. User ID: 34857257 United States 10/06/2017 11:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the backpacks are either a III or IIIa and neither will stop high velocity...for that you need a IV....if you will watch the videos it shows you exactly what it stops (lots of tests) I did find the IV inserts on sale 2 for $169 (but they weigh 12 ish lbs) they have clothes, ball caps everything you can think of...but there is [link to miguelcaballerofashion.com] that will and does make clothing for celebrities, leaders, royalty (expensive but he actually shoots the guy close range in the video I watched and the clothing stopped it) Quoting: just me 70699211 Level III will stop a high velocity rifle round, just not armor piercing, like the green tip 5.56 mm round which is very popular, Level IV will however realistically looking at 5-6 pounds per plate in ceramic, anything over that and odds are you will dump the plate after a couple hours on the run. good plates are very cheap right now go here: [link to www.botach.com (secure)] |

[link to www.amazon.com (secure)] a IIIA will not stop .223 or 5.56 or any rifle round really. Only good for small to medium handgun calibers. Will protect in some situations but not all. If you are going to carry a backpack anyway, better one with at least some protection than none. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75526091 United States 10/06/2017 11:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Also, penetration into these plates depend on the direction the plates are facing in relation to the projectile. So if you are wearing it as a backpack you would want the projectile side facing out. If you take it off and use it for a shield, you must keep in mind that you still want the projectile side facing away from you. I have looked into these before and considered putting two III plates together and wondered how that would affect penetration of rifle or higher caliber handgun rounds as compared to a single IIII plate. |

If you get shot in the chest the round will ricochet off the plate and you will have 2 holes instead on one. Use soft armour for one side only. I'm tired of waiting, somebody push the damn button already! Keep your 72 virgins, give me one old biker chick. |

(OP) Forum Administrator 10/06/2017 01:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | However, one of the questions asked: Quoting: Oaken Paw Would this stop a high velocity rifle bullet? Answer: No it's not rated for that No, but it would slow it down. Then the bullet would stay lodged in your body. Hopefully the bullet would break apart, greatly lose velocity, and instead of critical injury or death, it would just be a painful injury. Of course, we all know that depends on where you are hit. I can't find shit in regards to ballistic armor for k9s other than minimalist militaria. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74925937 Hmmmm ..... maybe an opportunity to design something and get a patent?
