SHOOTING STANLEY KUBRICK

When 2001 was released, people walked out of every screening
Then someone watched it on acid and wrote an article and everything changed overnight
Also ... Kubrick was nominated for Worst Director for THE SHINING as well as WORST PICTURE and how it's a classic
Do I aver such a reversal regarding my misunderstood film?
Will explaining how it was a social experiment and a pseudo documentary
just like the TV show on animal planet about MERMAIDS that earned the highest ratings ever?
For a fictional show about mermaids people STILL think was real?
No...
But I am entitled to my defense of my art
You are entitled to an explanation of this fragment of a film
So after a crazy week where my MOCKUMENTARY film about Kubrick was believed to be real (that was terrific as that's the entire challenge of such a genre) and then it actually made international news (surprise and funny) and then it took a bad, weird turn ...
How?
Seems people who have a great deal of time to spare apparently thought that they had exposed me as if I was not making a MOCKUMENTARY, which is kind of funny again, as I posted on YouTube my own raw footage of the shoot, so it didn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out...
The bizarre and sad thing (but it's also very telling) is the amount of venom expressed by so many- literally everyone hated the film at first because I edited it in a manner that did not reveal the interview in a stark manner- like the misdirection of a magician...
But that's ok, it's a taste issue and most thought it truly was Kubrick- but then THE ACTUAL WIFE OF STANLEY KUBRICK issued a statement calling me a liar and the film fraudulent and that's LIBELOUS SLANDER...
Hey it's pretty ironic ALL FICTION FILMMAKING is by definition a LIE yet when you structure it as a MOCKUMENTARY (Blair Witch, Paranornmal Activity, or DARK SIDE OF THE MOON which is about the same moon hoax theory and served as my influence)
For those works people don't call it fraud or lies (if initially fooled) but effective or entertaining or clever or anything positive but here people actually are trying to portray this modest no budget work of art that took a great deal of work to create as some type of CRIMINAL ACT when I posted the raw footage on YouTube and I offered a preview of it for free...
Seriously? Where are you senses of humor?
Or your respect for the attempt to capture Kubrick?
It's called art.. And all art is a LIE about the TRUTH
I am an award winning filmmaker with credits and regardless of anyone's taste about the film, I doubt anyone called the makers of Blair Witch liars when we thought the kids were dead and the footage real- that was the entire point.
THEREFORE I am releasing this week the full feature film (which I withheld at first as I knew within 2 hours everyone would announce online the spoiler @ the end where I lost the credit for the actor playing Kubrick) and here's the point...
For even now the value of this film for anyone unaware of its history may really enjoy the experience of believing it's real for 2 hours only to @ the end experience the joy or frustration that they suspended disbelief...
So please don't tell others it's a MOCKUMENTARY if they express interest as the ending will inform them quite clearly what it is and why I made it...
And if you hated the film that's your right but I think many people missed a fun harmless thought provoking experience and focused only on deconstructing a film never intended to withstand investigative scrutiny- only cursory gut reaction in real time while viewed...
In the end I am flattered so many people thought it was real and that for a few days it made international news- that's a harmless honor...
But I will not tolerate being called a liar or fraud when fiction is MY PROFESSION and also the profession of the late Mr Kubrick...
I will be sending his wife a polite demand for retraction of that statement as the film is not only fiction but in fact a labor of love towards the man, a genius who may indeed have pulled off the ultimate MOCKUMENTARY - the moon hoax.
Regardless of that being true or not, I state that I unapologetically made a work of comedic pseudo documentary fiction, that I will post a link this week got the full film and that I will pursue legal action against anyone calling me a liar or the film a fraud- a fraud is to artistic fiction as day is to night
Therefore this is fair warning so please say how much the film sucks and how much you hate it/ that's fine/ but do not defame me by insinuating that I was trying to actually execute a literal fraud as a fiction filmmaker- it's as ridiculous and absurd to say that as it is very serious and damaging to me to be called such a insulting lie, truly...
So anyway, thanks for watching the preview and I doubt many or any will watch the feature but at least it will prove that it was and is a fictional work employing a WAR OF THE WORLDS or BLAIR WITCHIAN narrative infrastructure...
Have a wonderful holiday and maybe one person will watch and enjoy my sincere cinematic work when released this week after such fanfare...
