North & South Carolinians Report Here! Isn't everybody there pretty much high up on a hill? Seriously that is a beautiful state. Just visited for the first time this year. Smoky Mountains, Chimney Rock, Asheville. We loved it. The roads were a bit tricky to navigate, though. 25-35 mph most of the time. Good luck. Stay high and dry. |

The coast is, by definition, at sea level. |

(Brain Fart) Realized after I hit send. Duh! North Carolina is great, though! |

North & South Carolinians Report Here! Thanks for the good luck wish! I live in the mountains of SC, but much of the state is pretty flat. I'm still a little nervous about the amount of rain coming. Supposed to be high winds too. Probably lots of trees will blow down. Keep safe everyone! |

North & South Carolinians Report Here! Fatbob, Been to Cashiers many times. Beautiful area! We live near the NC state line, so go into NC often. The mountains here aren't quite as high, but it's nice here too. Glad you enjoyed your visit! Thanks for the good wishes too! Last Edited by Dixie63 on 10/02/2015 08:05 PM |

North & South Carolinians Report Here! I'm in south, west, central NC. We're on a hill of sorts but we have a walkout so we're a little concerned and prepared for 10" of rain as best we could. We did tar the driveway at the house so no water runs downstairs. I think a carolina rolling update thread should be posted for this weekend. Part of my 3 acres and part of the property behind me is flood zone. Going to be interesting. It's been misty and soppy today. Heavy bands not close yet but it's very windy. |

North & South Carolinians Report Here! I am in South Carolina, and our area is expecting up to 15 inches of rain over the weekend! Quoting: Dixie63 Thankful to live high up on a hill! "Though it now appears that Hurricane Joaquin won’t make landfall on the United States, it will likely coincide with a storm that will bring a “thousand-year rainfall.” "In some areas of North Carolina and South Carolina, 24-hour rainfall amounts one would expect to fall only once in a thousand years are predicted." [link to www.breitbart.com] 15 inches of rain in one shot is crazy scary! If that happens you have to get outta Dodge my friend. Hugs and prayers |

If I where you I will scared too, DO NOT underestimate this merge, I repeat, DO NOT! |

Water always take the easiest way to go down a hill, avoid those locations. If you live near a river no matter is a small creek, you must move if your area is expecting to have several inches of rain. Flash Floods occurs also in mountains... For sure, people near the coast are going to be like if a tsunami has hit their area. But never underestimate Mother Nature when angry. I do live in mountains too and we on the past have severe flooding events, and sometimes half of the mountain just landslide and had killed people. Also people have been killed here when rivers from the mountains flash flood and carry everything away, including houses. |
