(OP) User ID: 4153891 United Kingdom 08/27/2013 10:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As we have seen here many times over the decades, the UK Winter weather is partly a reflection of the previous summer. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45696264 This summer has been long and very hot, especially here in the south-east of England, so I predict a generally mild winter. And I bet I'm right. Further to this, the 2009-2010 UK winter, when we had record breaking cold and snow, the previous summer had been cold, cloudy and wet. The following year, again the summer was trash and we had a cold snowy winter, infact the entire month of November was below zero here (-0c). I watch from time to time, the Accuweather forecasts, which are generally quite good and they are not predicting anything to "shout home about", so to speak. Last winter 2012, was nothing compared to the previous two (2009/10 and 2010/11). So I guess we are going back to the mild winters and hot summers. For a few years at least. I just hope its not like last winter...we had the most awful floods last November...in the 15+ years iv lived in the town iv never seen anything like it.....and that was after the local countryside/farmland had spent from may-sept under water that year too...didnt do a great deal for the local economy up untill that happened i too had related a cold wet crappy summer to mean a cold icy winter...but last year throw a spanner in that idea so not sure anymore FOR UK POSTERS ESP IF IN THE SOUTH WEST UK I know there are one or two of u out there and i hope its ok to post this on here for any1 thats interested "after last year floods something needs to be done by this piss poor excuse of a gov!!! The Environment Agency have not dredged the rivers in the Somerset Levels for 25 years. This is no longer good enough. We want the rivers dredged now" [link to epetitions.direct.gov.uk] "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair… |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 36481046 United Kingdom 08/27/2013 10:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | people keep sing we have had a good hot summer??? I dont get it? they ssem to forget we didnt have a spring, winter just seemed to go on and on...and then at the middle of june, Summer arrived. since then the weather has been good, but I wouldnt say particualrly hot, just good British summer weather, we havent even had a drought which we do most years. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 45835941 United Kingdom 08/27/2013 10:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | some random UK snow facts... Quoting: Nanna-Ree On 25 September 1895 snow was reported to have fallen at London and Wallington in Surrey making it the earliest fall of snow on the capital. On 2 June 1975 snow showers forced the abandonment of several cricket matches across the country. The snowiest winter of the twentieth century in the United Kingdom was 1947. Between 22 January and 17 March snow fell every day somewhere in the country. Other snow fact the deadliest UK avalache on record happened not in Scotland or Wales, not even in Northern England but right down South on the Sussex Downs in lewes in 1836.. [link to www.information-britain.co.uk] If it was that bad right down here on the Southern Coast I dread to think what that winter was like in the rest of these Isles. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36481046 I think it depends on where in the uk u are... im from somerset and we had floods Nov 2012, very little snow though winter BUT it was so so cold ( i never wear hoodies but i bought 3 last winter it was so cold) and it just stuck around...i still had the heating on in april :-( May and June were ok... then we had 2 and 1/2 weeks of f***ing hot weather july... then as soon as the kids broke up for the holiday its gone back to showers cloudy sunny spells but i wouldnt say it is hot ... and i love your comment about not having a drought LMAO hadnt thought of that but sooo true "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair… |

When carrying a coat in the car , make sure it has a hood and also put gloves and a wooly hat in the pockets . Head looses a lot of heat and rehydrate . You use more energy in freezing conditions . If you have to abandon you vehicle make sure you leave a note where you have headed too and your mobile number so Emergency services can contact you . We spent a lot of time trying to contact abandoned vehicle owners last year 4X4 drivers get some off road training , the amount of dickheads in 4x4s who haven't got a clue how to use their car is glaringly obvious in winter and you could help others out to . We live in the countryside and last year the farmers had to dig their sheep out , I think we're in for a bad winter this . Snow chains also work in muddy conditions as well, but go slower than usual . |

User ID: 45014658 United Kingdom 09/02/2013 06:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No doubt about it - this year's temperatures are going to reach a record low! I don't read 'experts' - I look at the nature around me. Every year I've been right. Last year I couldn't pick a single blackberry, there just weren't any, and the rowan trees were bare. This meant an unusually mild winter, which it was. But this year! There are enough blackberries to open a fruit factory, and the rowan boughs are bent with the weight of berries. Means a damned big chill. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39162401 I totally agree with ur theory...and yes, i had noticed that amount of berries compared to last year is much bigger Berries everywhere here too. |

Quoting: Nanna-Ree it wont be to everyones liking, each to there own...and i know that many will say that the met office cant predict tomorrows weather let alone next winters...but anyway... [link to www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk] another comment iv come across is this one ... "The temperatures in the Arctic have dropped below zero about 2-3 weeks earlier than expected. This is the start of winter which will spread south at the pace of a person walking. If the trend continues it will indeed be colder than average with an earlier end to Summer." [link to ocean.dmi.dk] I am also interested in watching what Mother Nature is telling us nowish. I am talking about when leaves start to fall, the amount of berries there are on bushes, bird and animal activity etc....and i strongly believe that volcanic and solar activity also needs to be considered then these predictions are made The kids go back to school and about 3 weeks and then i will be making sure i have as much sorted as possible incase of a sudden change in the weather...living in the country you have to after all... [link to www.youtube.com] [link to www.youtube.com] I have no problems with a cold winter, suits me just fine. |

(OP) User ID: 15727485 United Kingdom 09/08/2013 08:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A chilly Arctic summer has left nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year – an increase of 60 per cent. The rebound from 2012’s record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013. Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores.
