Re: Ball Lightening
Nice subject OP.
I got interested in ball lightning years ago.
I never saw one my self, sad enough.
My conclusions are:
They are real
Size from a few cm to more than half a meter.
They are interesting because the can generate lots of energy, and stay stable over a longer period of time.
During sudden collapse they can generate extreme strong magnetic fields.
And lots of other goodies, like the production of neutrons.

Now, what are they:
Balls of plasma, made up of ionised material, usually during thunder strike, there or nearby.
The current of the electric discharge made a sharp curve and ionised something, air and/or solid material.
The result was a highly conductive plasma globe, with a strong current running over its surface.
If you could see the current, it would look like a piece of yarn on a knot of wool.
Due to this current and the curved path, it compresses the surface of the plasma ball. This makes it stable.

And now for the very nice part:
Under certain circumstances, depending on the starting energy and the composition at the start of the plasma ball, there starts a friendly form of nuclear fusion. Hence the neutron radiation.
I am convinced this can be easy made into an industrial process of generating energy

Re: Ball Lightening
I have personally witnessed "ball lightening" which entered a squat at which I was living at the time via the chimney. It then hovered in the middle of the room for a good 20-30 seconds, with several witnesses all looking at each other and at the thing, going "WTF?" and such forth, until it exploded/vanished/popped out of existence.

It made no sound upon entry, but there was a faint electrical buzzing sound whilst it hovered.

I still can't explain it, but I will never forget it.

I wonder what wild and interesting explanations you can all come up with?

A Hungarian research worker has been studying the phenomena for more then thirty years. The phenomena is a 4 dimensional effect partly seen in the 3D.

Re: Ball Lightening
My father used to see ball lightening when he was a child, following the rail tracks and fencing. He said they were beautiful, but eerie. My husband has seen "orbs" of light, here,in this house.Supposedly, they're a different entity,though....

Re: Ball Lightening
You are a lucky guy, Ball lightnings are rare events that are awesome!

But they are physics, not supernatural....and they are cool!

I've seen one ball lightning. It was in our living room when I was 16. It hovered right above the telephone. Which we guessed was the attractor. And like the OP said. It hovered for like 30 seconds and then just exploded. Very loud. My brother who was sitting close to it and the telephone was knocked out of his chair. It burnt the outside of the house a bit. But nothing in the living room was hurt. And it was a blueish color.

Re: Ball Lightening
I had it come from an electrical outlet to about 2' inside of my living room... it exploded like a shotgun, going off directly over the unplugged (it was a storm) from the wall 'surge protector' that my new Sony system was plugged-in to... blew the main board in the (unplugged) amp... that stereo was destined to die.

Re: Ball Lightening
Maybe it was a Lightning Elemental from the Final Fantasy series? My question is to be taken both as a joke and seriously. Especially considering throughout recorded Human history about Ball Lightning there have been times these Balls possess some sort of intellegence to them...

Anyone ever tell you how cute you are? ;) Anyway, back to subject at hand.Kinda makes me glad I have an old wind-up Victrola! I've lost electronic equipment before during lightening storms and unplug everything now. Pain in the butt, but worth it to save my pc,tv,etc.

Re: Ball Lightening
Another friend, who was present at the time, couldn't even recall the event, and denied it. Bizarre.

This I find interesting...that denial.

I have had friends who observe something and then deny it seconds later...one example was a UFO in which we both stood speechless as it hovered and then took off.

He at first was as stunned as me but the next day he denied the whole thing...left me questioning his sanity.

I've had this happen TOO. i had seen something and when I went to talk about it the next day with the people who were with me that night, they said it didn't happen.
I KNOW it was real.

My Balls light up in the dark after drinking from one of those green rivers, I've tried eating a shit load of Wilting daisies to combat the effects, someone said I should take advice from one of Obamas chief of staff, he recommended I should place some cut onions on plates and sit in a darkened room with them for 24 hours , someone else on here told me the Pinzillas knew about this method three years before the Chief of staff and that they're to blame for me not recovering sooner.

What do you think?
