Started taking a Vitamin D supplement today...
I started taking Vitamin D today and plan on taking 2,500 IU daily. After a few weeks, I'm going to up that to 4,000 IU.

For those who have been taking it, will I notice any difference in how I feel? I'm a fairly healthy male with no medical issues. Will I have more energy? How long will it take to notice any effects?

Insufficient quantities in milk. And the winter sun is probably too low in the sky to make much on your skin....whatever skin might be showing during the winter! Most people become seriously deficient of the D3 hormone during the winter months.....and D3 helps to strengthen and regulate your immune system. Twenty minutes of noon-day sun with a lot of exposure during the summer (no sunscreen) creates 10,000-20,000 units. During the winter, take 5000 units per day of D3 supplements.

get your blood level tested!

if it is low (most are) start increasing your dosage and retest until your level is acceptable. As long as your blood levels are not high you will be fine some people take as much as 100,000 iu/day.

I take 3000iu and stay away from the milk (except for coffee). Too many hormones/chemicals used in the cows to increase output.

I live in the Pacific Northwest on the Canadian Border, there is no effective sunshine available here from now until next May. I upped my daily dose to 8,000 IU and plan to continue it over the winter.

Milk contains Vitamin D2 - ergocalciferol - which is very poorly assimilated coupled with the fact that many people lose the ability to digest milk properly as they age. And as another poster already stated, our milk supply is rather polluted with growth hormones, anti-biotics and bovine blood cells and who knows what else. In other words, isn't doesn't do a body good, IMO, despite the media campaign to the opposite.
