Honey is the only known food that can NEVER go bad. Keep it for 1000 years and it crystallizes, that's all. Add a bit of heat and POOF honey again.

Store it wherever you like and for as long as you like. I do recommend keeping it covered though, for obvious reasons.

Best thing for acne is to eliminate processed sugar, fried foods, and most dairy (maybe all for a while). Eat lots of vegetables, lots of olive oil, some fruit, not too much meat, and def. nothing fried, and try eating mostly whole grain bread. Basically the mediterranean diet. You don't have to be completely rigid about it, and a litle bit of junk food once in a while is not going to harm you, as long as your overall diet is nutritious and as natural as possible. Only organic eggs, and preferably meat too--the hormones in commercial eggs and meat are horrible, and esp. harmful to women.

Thank you very very much. It's not for me but someone I know and I will pass on the information! My problem is with blackheads.. if you have any tips on that? lol Thanks again

You're welcome! Oh, and stress is an enemy of beautiful skin..goes without saying. Excessive prolonged stress and lack of sleep are the worst, so anything to relax and sleep better through the night is going to benefit your appearance in major ways :)

Blackheads...those are tough. Wash face before bedtime with a cleanser containing 2% sallicylic acid. Every other night put on some astringent with 2% sallicylic acid. Don't overcleanse though or it will irritate your skin; only put it on the problem area and be gentle. Also, a mild AHA moisturizer might help (Neutrogena Healthy Skin is pretty good but don't use the salicylic acid with it), apply every other night at first, and then when your skin gets used to it you can increase to every night. Wear a moisturizer with sunblock during the day.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 512468

Sorry, I meant Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle cream contains Retinol in a low concentration, not AHA (which can be too irritating). Sunblock still needed for daytime.

Yep, and tastes better, too. It works as a disinfectant and an antibiotic, both. Maybe that's the hydrogen peroxide angle...hadn't heard of that. Both my son and I have had injuries that sliced off a layer of skin. The honey not only healed it, but the skin ultimately grew back without any scarring. It takes commitment to keep it bandaged and clean, but the results were worth it. It was phenomenal.

Organic and unprocessed is best as it has all the natural enzymes, some of which are lost in processing.

Hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria, so it's good to put a bit on the pimple, or even on an insect bite. Rubbing alcohol is way too harsh, esp. for the face.

Re: Honey is More Effective Than Antibiotics!
Botulism (Latin, botulus, "sausage") is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by botulin toxin. The toxin is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. C. botulinum is an anaerobic, Gram positive, spore-forming rod. Botulin toxin is one of the most powerful known toxins: about one microgram is lethal to humans. It acts by blocking nerve function and leads to respiratory and musculoskeletal paralysis

 Quoting: Michelle

Is it true that honey can cause infant botulism?

Yes, honey can cause infant botulism. Honey is a known source of bacterial spores that produce Clostridium botulinum bacteria. When ingested by infants, these bacteria make a toxin that can cause infant botulism, a rare and serious form of food poisoning. For this reason, infants under 12 months of age should never be fed honey.

Infant botulism affects a baby's nervous system and can result in death. Most babies with infant botulism, however, do recover.

Oops! I do a little bit though. Surely it can't be harmful with just a dab???

When my grown kids were toddlers, I fed them warm milk with garlic, butter and honey when they had colds, and they recovered speedily. My mother, who was a nurse, found it amazing, and my kids never needed antibiotics either.

Did you steal this recipe from my grandma? lol. You must be from Europe.

No, but I started reading natural remedies when I was only 12 years old. My father is physician who found my interests quaint, until I healed a wart with dandelion milk. I grew up in Texas, a good old tomboy.
 Quoting: Friend 339560

Yeah, natural remedies are great! The one you mentioned is exactly the same as my grandmother used to give me when I got a cold. It was good, but I have to say I hated the butter in the hot milk lol. Another good one, and more palatable to some, is honey with warm water and lemon. For a cold, pour the juice of half a lemon into a cup of warm water, and add a tablespoon of honey. It's even more potent with some grated ginger, but not everyone likes ginger. A dash of cayenne pepper is also great, but not for kids.

I wanted to purchase some today and a tiny bottle was 4 dollars at walmart.

A rather expensive type called Manuka Honey from New Zealand has started to appear on the shelves; as much as £12 (over $20) a jar.

I did some googling a while ago and there are some fantastic claims regarding its nutritional and medicinal properties.
 Quoting: Spot

Yikes its about $5 to $6 in nz
but it is great tasting honey.
Manuka is a smallish native
flowering tree.

dad use to have a few bee hives in the backyard
and always swore by the healing properties
of the wax cappings as it contains
a natural antibiotic called propylis.
If you wanted to try that you'd
have to buy comb honey.

Manukka honey has high anti biotic properties, but most commercial honey doesn't because its been heated and pastuerised. Its had the goodness cooked out. Get some real honey from a bee keepers. It may not be clear and golden but its better for you. Its also got to do with what the bees are feeding on as well.

Re: Honey is More Effective Than Antibiotics!
Acne is both inside and outside. When the body ph is too acid...which is the description of the Standard American Diet (SAD) ... it tries to get out through the skin. This causes bacteria and fungus in the zits.

Do a non-chemical betonite clay mask to soften and draw out bacteria.

Then, a simple baking powder moistened with water as a face scrub/wash is an effective, inexpensive non-chemical solution for alkalinizing the skin.

Works great for regular skin, too. For very dry skin like I have, I put plain organic olive oil on right after. Works better than any expensive and chemical laden products I've used. Makes the face shine.

This should work for blackheads, too.

Remember to choose the non pasteurized version of honey.

Raw honey is honey.

It's the difference in nutrition between eating a ripe tomato from your backyard and a can of Hunt's Stewed Tomatoes.

Whatever is cooked and procressed loses enzymes and nutrition. That's why the honeycomb and bee pollen is so effective.

Raw is hard to find. Usually have to go to a health food store and it's expensive.

Nope. It has to say "unpasteurized" or "raw" honey. Some more upscale supermarkets carry them nowadays, but most likely you will find it in a health food store.
