Finances? Insurance? Finally figuring it out? Finally had enough of feeling bad? I'm not buying the findings in this report. Smoking is more self-medication, not the other way around. |

From what I learned from the Dr Ardis material that snake venom is in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, pesticides and that nicotine is an antidote to snake venom aka CV ... it seems tobacco has a place in life. The majority of people that used tobacco never got the phantom infection that keeps threatening to shut things down... Smokers are also considered to have better social skills in general ... Various chemicals are in cigarrettes to make them addictive yet proper dosing of pure nicotine can improve health... you just need to slowly work up starting with low levles of nicotine patches or gum. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 86259783 Australia 09/03/2023 05:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The link between smoking cigarettes and mental illness is well-established, but scientists have long pondered which causes which. Quoting: Captain KC Jones Now, using health data from more than 350,000 people, geneticists out of Denmark's Aarhus University have found significant evidence that smoking cigarettes can actually lead to mental disorders — a longstanding point of contention among researchers who have struggled to determine whether smoking makes people mentally ill or whether people smoke because they're mentally ill. Using the gigantic UK Biobank, which contains genetic data on more than half a million people, researchers led by Aarhus' Doug Speed tracked the healthcare outcomes of people who began smoking in their late teens and found that they often weren't admitted to hospitals for mental distress until they were at least in their 30s. On its face, that's strong evidence for the hypothesis that it's smoking leading to conditions ranging from depression to bipolar disorder, not the other way around. "The numbers speak for themselves," Speed said in a press release. "Smoking does cause mental illness." There's hundreds of other drugs they put in there to make their product very addictive. I don't think about getting a pack of smokes, what is it now $20? But I sometimes think about getting a can. It never goes away it's always there in the background just lurking for you to get soft. |

Not a causal factor Quoting: klfiend Consult Google I am far too pressed for time to offer you sources No, it's the opposite. Smoking CAUSES schizophrenia. I know this because my daughter suffers from this, and can ONLY function as a nonsmoker. She is now hyper sensitive to stimulants (which cigarettes are), and has severe psychotic relapses when she picks up smoking again (self destructive behaviour.) Psych Nurses have also reported this observation to me personally that they have seen. The 'official' line is that it is a form of self medication and 'positive'. May be Ok for people that need a 'pick me up', but terrible for those that are already manic, agitated or paranoid. |
