No illusion here and there haven't been since I was 15 or so when my high school econ political science teacher made this clear. He also told me to read the Federalist paper. About 7 years after I graduated, they forced him out of his job with false accusations. I have always considered SSI just a tax - lost money. But I would happily give up any claim on this "lost money" if my children don't need to participate in loosing more. As for retirement, I made my own arrangements. No ideal, and not what the boomers consider "retirement" but then you get more of what you want when you want less. The important things in life are free. He is spending all of it outside of the country, So not coming back to Americans and will not be giving his Kids any. Thats ok but there generation is also fucking the USA. He also used to be a conservative and got the shot and all of a sudden was Liberal as hell. I will have savings, and some retirement but not like the boomers had. Not when prices for living are where they are at. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77261842 6 figs ain't what it used to be for sho. It is ok for single living with no debt but if someone had kids and or support payments or alimony or student loans on top of the house and car - sheiiit. Might as well get on welfare and get the gibs after the government and bankers take it all. |

No ideal, and not what the boomers consider "retirement" but then you get more of what you want when you want less. The important things in life are free. Its a cliche because it is true Amen. My boomer elders always said SS was for people who don't know how to invest for their future. Well, between them inflating any resemblance to a retirement all away, and piss poor planning and general malfeasance of the program, we will likely see nothing. Who are the fucking idiots in charge of this "investment" and why are they so incompetent? As you said, I'll be fine without it but many, many others will not, and while they bend over backwards to give it away who have made very little contribution. Let the market crash in a 20 yr depression scenario and it will be heads on pikes. |
