We aren't cut out to be socialists. We are the people who couldn't be constrained by Europe. We are the malcontents, idealists, speculators, dreamers, inventors, debtors and criminals who would not be chained. Post your hard-learned lessons here. I'll start. Quoting: Swamprat Having a generator with a 240 volt outlet isn't very handy if you don't have the correct twist lok plug and cord for the 240 water heater. And Make SURE you REALLY turn off the breakers because if you don't, you may get a shock later on if you had to rig something. Turn off most breakers to protect your stuff from power surges, but you might want one left on, so you can tell when the electric comes back on. Like have a light or bathroom fan on. When gas stations start running out of fuel, they will happily sell you the contaminated gasoline at the bottom. Refrigerators are a pain because the food inside must be kept refrigerated, consumed, or disposed of. I fired up my gen once during an outage without turning off the breakers and it cost me about $3k. Blew up my regrigerator, microwave, tv's. and various other electronics. |

Stocked up on BIC lighters before Y2K and when I tried to use then about 10 years later, the flints just turned to dust when I tried to light them flints “rot” after a while especially in high humidity and won’t work when you need them. What you want is Scripto Piezo lighters. No flint. Got some 20 years old and they still light on the first flick. |
