Quoting: Jay3 A big US furniture company this week fired all of its 2,700 employees while they were sleeping, telling them in texts and emails not to come to work the next day, according to reports. The mass firing on Tuesday by United Furniture Industries, which makes budget-friendly sofas and recliners for Simmons Upholstery, left thousands of employees including truck drivers and factory workers in North Carolina, Mississippi and California unemployed just two days before Thanksgiving. [link to nypost.com (secure)] Also in part due to the fact that the prison industry is now making the furniture. Last Edited by Unruly on 11/26/2022 10:53 AM |

This violated the WARN ACT. Any company with over 50 employees must give 60 days notice before plant closure. I read on FurnitureWorld(?) website from previous thread. Immediate bankruptcy is warned. Right now the employees are screwed if bankruptcy is approved. It will take forever for them to receive any compensation. |
