Thanks for the site its not a glitter site. Been working in IT for over 22 years as a network guy always had friends that were programmers and it looked interesting to me. I think I will learn a little programming...

I've been a software / database engineer for going on thirty years now.

My career has been focused on a single proprietary ERP the entire time.

Coding.... folks.... is going away.


You'd be better off learning how to farm and hunt. At least those skills will be in demand.

I wanted to learn to climb trees. Bought all the relevant books and started watching videos. Bought all my own gear ($1500+) and started working on my own trees. Now I do residential prunes and removals for really good money.

If I wanted to learn via paid training I'd probably spend a couple years pulling branches and shoving them in a chipper. Then I'd get trained but would literally make half as much as I do on my own.

This is not the only specialized job skill I've spent the time and money to learn. Moral of the story: don't expect any training or equipment to be handed to you and if it is, comes with strings attached.

The $8/hr programmers are horrible, but learning how to create food, energy and healthcare are the foundations. Always.

The potential in Rust and Web Assembly and all these things imply is another revolution in the already stunning series of revolutions that the advent of software afforded us.

Rust (or coding constructs like it) will give us the true building blocks of "esservescent" systems. A term I feel describes self configuring and self managing systems. Bubbling-eaters, if you will. The persistence layers internal to the objects, but encodeable in bio-film like latent constructs that can and will lie dormant on old hard-drives and proxy caches until new consumers imbibe the latent data to retrace old paths and pass on "experience" (so to speak) from long dead objects.

Exact same path! About 25 years coding. Can't stand it no more. I now bought my land and saving some $ to finish it up, then I'm gonna live of what I can harvest.

And BTW, don't trick yourself. Coding is not for anybody. If you don't have the jist of it, go do something else.

the coding language has since been abandoned but ill get back into coding one day
