So my next step is to take somewhere to get tested, but, yeah, I it just needs placing . I think the sticker said 2018, assuming that was the date sticker. Second phase in life begins |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83880481 United States 08/11/2022 03:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah and that also depends on where you live. I had an OEM battery in a Jeep in SoFL that crapped out on me after only two years. Same thing as yours ... wouldn't store a charge. Bite the bullet and get a new one and depending on where you live, get the most expensive MFer you can. Also, if you leave the car unused for any length of time, get a tickle-charger for it to keep it tip-top. Don't let it run all the way down as that also impacts battery life. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80628558 United States 08/11/2022 03:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a 2010 Hyundai Sante Fe.The other day, the car started fine several times and ran fine. Then it wouldn't start. It was pretty much dead. Quoting: kdog82 Finally got a jump from a tow truck driver and it started right up and ran fine till I got home. I took the battery out, put it on my charger and after a few hours it was fully charged. Voltage was 12.8 volts and held a charge over night. I cleaned the terminals and connectors with sand paper. Installed it back in the car and still wouldn't start. Tried jumping it with my wifes car and still just the lights coming on and some clicking. Is it the battery not having enough amps or something else? At times a battery can appear fully charged until you try to hit it with some serious current draw such as starting a vehicle. This can be caused by a faulty cell or a short between the plates. If you charged it with an outboard charger while the battery was not installed in the vehicle, and the car still didn't start, I'd replace the battery. BTW the clicking sound means that the starter is trying to spin up but there isn't enough current to crank the engine.. |

If you are driving and the voltage drops because it's not getting charged, you need a new alternator. This could leave you on the side of the road, I would get it checked. User ID: 83996573 United States 08/11/2022 03:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Could be both bad battery and alternator... If you CAN get the car started with the battery pull the positive off if it continues to run it's the battery but if it slowly dies or just dies in general after pulling the positive off bad alternator. I believe that's how it goes... Craftdragon screw a coffee buy me a beer or a membership $chank3567 cheers! Anonymous Coward User ID: 82604947 United States 08/11/2022 03:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just swap it out for anew one and go from there. I've had major issues with batteries and have found it's just not worth the headache running diagnostics. Could be the alternator caused the initial death by not charging the battery but hey it's time for a new one after being drained to death in the first place. |

Alternator wouldn't have let it charge and drive home since all the cars accessories wouldve drawn from the battery. Its wore out. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54028161 correct, it should actually read higher than twelve volts.. 13 to 14 possibly.. you need a new battery.. Correct. You need a new battery and after that start the car and stick a voltmeter on the terminals to check it read 14.1 or above, this will prove the alternator is working. |

I've got the same problem... new battery, new alternator. Some days it holds a charge, other days I come out and it won't even click. No rhyme or reason so I'm thinking it's a short somewhere. If that's the case this is a two-man job and will require a voltmeter check your voltage at the battery like the gentleman have been saying should be reading 14 volts While someone is observing the voltmeter someone should start pulling fuses until you find the circuit that is bleeding ... At the beginning voltage will start to drop when you find the correct fuse the voltmeter will equalize and not move. No way, 12.8 is fully charged, but a really good battery could read 13.1. Never 14v. OP, take it to the auto parts store and get it load tested. If it passes the load test you're looking at a bad terminal or bad starter. |
