Yeah it's usually hidden a few layers in to find it. I had a hell of a time getting this laptop to dual boot.

Google your specific make and model to find the option in your bios and where to find it. Can be a bitch on the newer computers.

Is your thumb drive initialized GPT or MBR? Might matter.

Try flashing it with rufus.

thats exactly what I used . And the ubuntu studio iso was a torrent too to make sure the checksum was good .

Nah the bios nowadays because of, no doubt windows and mac, fairly well hide the real options. You have to google your computer to find out how.

Welcome to discovering you really don't own your computer. New UEFI bios' do not have legacy mode, and will not boot third party OS or Windows 7 for that matter.

I was afraid of that. Some bullshit windows contract preventing install. So what i got windows forever?

had this problem recently with an HP laptop

only partial legacy support available
only "secure boot" could be disabled
everything else was not "legacy"

had to let the installer nuke the drive and start from blank
forced to have the HDD formatted as GPT
forced to have a "boot partition"

it runs now
but it took three attempts to install before it actually booted from the HDD

Are there multiple dives in the laptop?

If so press “F8” during boot of asus laptops and choose the other drive to try and boot from it.

Sounds like your grub boot loader was put on a different drive rather than the primary boot drive when you did the install.

But that’s just my guess without looking at it personally

Press F12 when machine post and you should get a bios boot menu

tried iso to usb because rufus was forcing NTFS and bios couldnt see .


iso usb and yumi burned the iso in fat32 and bios sees it but for a roughly 4gb iso the used space is 123mb .

so its translating a 4gb iso OS into 123mb somehow during the burn .

ive installed a few hundred distros in my day and never had this trouble.

this is the first laptop ive ever had with no dvdrw drive and ive always done it via dvd rw burned disk , never a usb so it didnt need to be concerned with file system formats and such .

So , I got it to the ubuntu studio boot menu and it tried to boot and encountered and error .

acpi bios error failed creating tz.ermf something


AE_ALREADY_EXISTS


and then defaulted to busy bee shell and finally an intramfs prompt where i couldnt do much of anything .

i may have to buy a dvd rw external drive and burn a disk like its 2009 :-|

Just get a raspberry. I got a Linux laptop for 90 bux off eBay.

this machine actually does have a 3050ti graphics card . Now were getting somewheres.

Make sure that Secure Boot is disabled
