People also talk about the quake but not about the corrupt mayor Eugene E. Schmitz during that time in SF.... 1906 brought San Francisco two shocks: the Great Earthquake and Fire, and the indictment of Mayor Schmitz on 27 counts of graft and bribery. Convicted, and given the maximum penalty, he appealed and the conviction was reversed by the Appellate Court and the State Supreme Court. Why do I feel like this man had something to do with the destruction of SF not a quake as they say... |

Quoting: what really happened... 76635370 There exists some reports about how by order of some official, dynamite was used to create firebreaks by leveling whole city blocks. Though even back then it was obvious already how it wasn't the right strategy. |
