No land invasion of Taiwan can succeed if a air and sea blockade can't. Keep Taiwan isolated like Kennedy did with Cuba. This would force the US into focusing limited resources into doing something it can't. It will also take away the ability of the politicians in the US to use Taiwan as a stage for further provocations. Start with a naval blockade, then when attacked from the air, impose no-fly zone. All of Taiwan's anti-ship missiles and anti-air missiles will need to be bombed eventually. The US has acted out this very script repeatedly.
