Amateur Propulsively Lands Model Rocket
After years of attempts and designs, Joe Barnard finally nailed the landing with his Scout F model rocket, using a combination of a home made flight computer, thrust vectoring, and throttling the engine (sorta) by partially blocking the thrust. Here, at long last, is his first successful propulsive landing:

That's amazing! Could you imagine trying that yourself? Lol! I can't even set off fireworks correctly. Don't tell me it's not rocket science. Thanks, very enjoyable.

There are far easier ways to recover a small model rocket, of course, but it was a fascinating project to watch over the years. I think this puts the final nail in the coffin of anyone who claimed SpaceX were faking their propulsive rocket landings.

Oh My Gosh!

That was so amazing!

Not only did he build and machine every part, he wrote the software and made the onboard flight computer. I'm just floored.

Someone needs to give this man a job. Brainpower and skill like that are so freaking amazing!

Extremely, extremely impressive.
Especially considering he's dealing with a solid fuel rocket motor with no "actual" throttle that is on full thrust constantly.
.
The whole thing is a great achievement for Mr. Barnard.
He has my sincere admiration.

Thx, Astro.

This for sure.
When I first saw the Space X landings, they reminded me of a 60s sci fi movie.

Now it has gone mainstream. Outstanding, IMHO.

I’m sure he’s going to put that on his résumé when he applies to SpaceX for a job or NASA who knows very well done I know a lot of people in modern rocketry here in Kansas and nobody’s even come close to doing that stuff at all they built some great models though
