These are official temperature readings, in my area the highest we hit was 39.4 according to my gauge and my neighbour confirmed this on his, it was even hotter where my sister lives near Stansted.

It's pretty damned hot here in Missouri, but the first summer I lived here (1990) it was over 100 F, actual temperature, not heat index, for several days in May. We hadn't put in the AC yet and I thought I'd moved to hell.

Several stations reported over 40 and there may be some that were higher but they don't all report in real-time and it can take several weeks to all be ratified. Getting excited over temp records means knowing nothing about history.

As much as I know between 5500 and around 3600 years ago Poland was mostly a steppe, hot and dry. In fact, people here abandoned the tradition of cremation for a while, most likely due to the lack of firewood. On the other hand, after 1600-1300BC this land turned into something more similar to the Amazon.

Europe has an extremely variable climate. Change is the norm around here. Time to get used to it and adapt if necessary.
