Artificial candy flavors that taste like soap

I don't each much candy but about a month ago someone offered me some Reese's Pieces. I couldn't taste any peanut butter, only sugar. After a few minutes my mouth tatsed like soap.

Harry Potter Jelly Belly.... Bertie Botts Beans... soap flavor.

I've asked adults to close their eyes and smell a package (the smell is that strong) and then say, "Mr. Bubble, right?" and they always smile and say, "YES!!!"

Good question! I have tasted soap. I grew up at a time that when children said a "bad" word they got their mouths washed out with soap. It didn't happen to me, but to a friend while I was at her house. I asked to taste it.

I have talked to people who have never tasted soap, but can identify something that has a soapy taste, so their is some serious palette magic happening out here.

And we eat it anyway! It is candy! Thanks for the addition to the list.

I don't like most candy now, but every cent (and I mean actual cents under a dollar) of my allowance growing up was spent on candy. It was the only time I got candy so it was a very special time on Saturday morning to shop. You had to be daring because parents didn't just buy their kid another one if they didn't like something new they tried. I have very fond memories of heirloom candy shopping.
