Right now Orlando is in the NE quadrant of the storm, which is where tornadoes usually form in hurricanes. Any that form will approach from the SE, so if her room is on the north or west side of her building, she should be mostly safe except from breaking glass. Tell her to close all her curtains to protect from that.

She currently has about 24 to 36 hours before the worst of the storm hits Orlando.

Ian's sustained wind speeds are 2 mph below the requirement to be classified as a Category 5 hurricane. This storm is going to bring immense devastating damage to Florida, especially the central west coast.

All I know is Lee County, as that was the presser I just caught:

FT Myers is screwed. Lots of it is under water. They don't know how badly the infrastructure has been damaged, and can't check anything until the storm passes (it's half time).

Looting has started, they said it will be zero tolerance for it, but it's floriduh, so who knows.

curfew at 6pm and stay home cause the west side of the storm is coming.

My house has so far survived with zero damage!

I hope all the other floridians here are OK!

The Florida electrical grid may be a mess. A lot of those parts needed for repair, we, oh so cleverly, allowed China to be the sole source.

The supply chain is a mess. Hell, I have to wait 3 months for a BMW bumper. Hope it shows up at all with Europe rationing power for the winter.
