I understand this couples plight. I am forced out of my home soon. I have to sell, I just have to face that my retirement plans changed and I can't base out of Nashville anymore. It has to be even worse to have to leave an actual Single family home in SanFran. His home was obviously there before other homes were, it was a stand alone wooden structure. It might have survived the SF Fire.

I investigated buying in SF in the mid 1990s. A loft in the hipster district was 250k, a fortune. You could own a nice home just 10 miles outside of the city then for that.
It was already blighted and dirty then in many areas.

They may have to leave and it could be the best thing that ever happened to them. That lot has to be worth 5 million. I'll bet a tear down is allowed because of the condition. It's not a valuable structure. I feel bad for them.

I don't know how often Google comes through there but I have found several google images on street view of buildings and other landmarks that are several years old. It might have helped.

I’d almost guarantee that the tax assessor has satellite photos online that they can view. Historically most assessor pay for a service that photographs the property every year from satellite and probably have a street view photo every 2-3 years. Use the government’s own evidence against them.
