Why do people park on the road instead of in their driveway?

I do it during tourist season to save parking for friends

People that park in the street instead of their own driveways are called democRats.

I know some people who park out on their street instead of their driveways to shade their cars from the sun. Garages are used for storage and no room for their cars. Protecting their paint jobs

It can get even worse them leaving the street and running ciricles round and round into your driveway and onto your grassy property which is private property.

They have backed right up towards our den door and ran over the concrete block restrainer that are there to prevent people from driving off the pavement there and right ontop of our main waterline which is covered over but cannot withstand a vehicles weight driving right ontop of it.

We are now considering putting up a gate at the entery to our driveway.

While we're talking about parking, please explain why so many Back into their driveways? It seems easier to me to Back out of a drive than back into a drive.

Ever seen cars parked in a cul de sac with the front bumper faced into the curb?

And it is easier (and safer) to back into than out of driveways if you know how to back a car... considerably harder if you don't.

I see lots of military do it. Like they have to get to the base real fast.

My neck has a permanent crick in it. I can't turn it around properly. I don't want a chiropractor popping it around either.
Anyway, I've got the whole fucking street or cul-d-sac to back into when I leave. I think it's pointless to back into a drive.

If I lived on a hwy or a busy street, I might see it differently.

Why Do Americans Drive In Parkways But Park In Driveways

You get parked in. It takes half a day for the towtruck to arrive and you lose that time in dollars , or get fired.

In this country, tow-truck drivers that haul off your car and then charge you ungodly fees for hauling and storage, can be shot on sight without penalty. I'm highly in favor of it.

It's a skill thing, like any skill, once you get it you've got it.

If you have developed good knife skills and can chop and dice food quickly and easily, why would you pull out the Ronco dice-a-meal when you could just use one little blade and the skill you've mastered.

Backing in... who else is driving in your driveway that you need to watch out for.
Backing out... need to watch for traffic coming from 2 directions or more in a cul de sac.

I almost got hit in cul de sacs TWICE by people backing out of their driveways, they are the least likely to look where they're going because they take for granted there's a HUGE area to back into.

Park the way you wish to in your own driveway. Let others do as THEY wish. I prefer to back in but don't because it's easier to forget to close the garage door. It does hide the license plate from street snoopers with license plate readers(both private and cops) if you have only one plate. Of course, you can always use a car cover or park in the garage.

I got my 1st driver's license in 1960, 60 years ago, and I have plenty of skills, but I don't waste effort where none is required. You can park your car any way that you want to if it makes you happy.

cops with tag readers is a legit reason to back in. I wasn't trying to tell other's how to park, I was just questioning the good sense to it.
For myself, I live about 400 ft from the main road and I can park in my lawn, my drive, or anywhere else I please and I'll be driving forward when I reach the road.

In my hood they park all kinds of fucked up ways,because their garages are filled with stupid shit and golf carts.

Because the idiots want a drunk to come by and side swipe their cars.

Those people piss me off really. The house in front of mine His son would always park right across from My drive way so I had to back out cautiously so I wouldn't hit His car. The thing that really pissed Me off is their drive way is twice as long as mine but yet He couldn't seem to park it where it belonged.
