As long as there isn't any significant rust these cars go forever! Diesel is more expensive than gas at the moment but diesels get better millage than gas so they are still more economical to drive and maintain. Sorry about your Mom....my mother also loved her 240 diesel Benz. The 300 is better since it has more get up and go. Cheers. |

Try turning the engine by hand with 27 mm wrench. Look at the glow plugs while you have them out. You will probably replace a few if they look gummy. Start it using instruction in the owners manual. It may take a few trys. It is a 300D it should turn over and start purring after half hour. If you get white smoke it is the pump most likely not the heads. The tires are aged out. Change all the fluids. Pull the pan on transmission wipe out new transmission seal refill. Drink a dram of her favorite whiskey in here honor. |

It's also a diesel engine with a mechanical fuel pump. EMP proof if you have a battery and starter that is protected from such. If it's a manual you can just push start it. That engine will also run on just about any half-baked kind of biofuel you can make at home. The engine can be pulled out and adapted easily to connect to a generator or water pump or mill and run for decades without breaking down. It's what true preppers keep their eyes out for. |

The only real issue was the fact it was a unibody and it started to rust theough by the foot wells and despite 2 replacements of the gasket around the sun roof it would rain inside from there and drip by ny feet. That just did not work well if you're commuting an hour each way in business clothes and makeup. Thoroughly enjoyed that car and likely might still have it had my kids lived closer back then as they can fix anything. Working on it |
