Anonymous Coward User ID: 79664030 United States 01/07/2022 11:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My computer accepts a fax and turns it into a PDF and organizes it by who it's sent from. It never gets printed. Some of the forms our drivers use get faxed to us. The fax machine immediately prints them and they pull it from the printer when they come in the morning. So to answer your question. Convenience. It's more convenient than searching your email and printing the form. Paper to paper. Not scan paper to pdf, email, retrieve email, print to paper. You're essentially handing off a paper to someone nowhere near you with minimal steps involved. |

It's even worse today with so many agencies and government buildings locked to the public. The tech has its place in low bandwidth environments(maybe). It's simply a matter of backwards compatibility. I have a brand new old fax machine on a shelf still in the unopened box. |

Paper docs have to be shredded or burned to be destroyed. Electronic docs can be destroyed at a click of a mouse, a power surge or EMP. Paper docs are much harder to modify. E-docs can be modified without a trace. The issue of faxes is really is about paper docs versus e-docs. Last Edited by Remedial_Rebel on 01/07/2022 12:12 PM |

They don't accept emails as legal documents. Faxed documents are specifically covered in the laws. Many need to be re-written. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80570749 United States 01/07/2022 12:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HIPA documents are REQUIRED to be sent by FAX by most medical entities when they are sending HIPA documents electronically outside of their own organization. By doing that it gets rid of a HUGE amount of security work that has to be done on their computer and connection networks otherwise (think small doctor offices, small independent clinics etc., NOT large hospitals) ... PLUS when the paper arrives it is immediately available to be put into the file without needing to be located and printed out The design of the entire Fax system was MUCH better thought out than was the design of the email system. THAT is why Faxes are still so useful today (my office uses them all the time to this day - quicker and more efficient for many things than computers and email) |

I heard that once when I fell down the stairs. Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. “They’ve got us surrounded again, the poor bastards.” - U.S. Army Paratrooper at Bastogne |
