I’ve been routinely using an Oximeter since I’ve had shortness of breath, but I’m pretty sure it’s from me being out of shape (I blame Covid).

That said, I’m always 98-99%, generally the latter. I think it’s just overall (for me at least).

The virus enters cells, especially lung cells, and explodes them once they have reproduced a bunch of new virus.

Typically that killed cell will be replaced with non-functional scar tissue.

I think we all start out with excess lung capacity, but every lung infection, reduces the amount of active tissue remaining.

The other effect, is the virus kills the cilia which bring up the lung phlegm. Without this cilia, you can literally drown in your own phlegm.

I think the cilia does regrow although it might take several months.
