There can be a quadrillion barrels of "oil" under Texas, that equate to 1 billion years of current demand. The problem is that if it takes a barrel and a quarter to get a barrel, your business won't last long. Like the "shale miracle" that has failed spectacularly. At least now they understand that drilling for growth was digging their own grave. It's a drop in the bucket, but a drops better than no drop.

I get tired of hearing about the "gas prices" boogeyman. Sure, it'd be nice to have cheaper gasoline and I understand it's a critical issue for some. However, I want to hear about the plan to deliver food to the store when diesel prices become prohibitively expensive. I don't shed a tear for the person disgruntled about having to pay an extra 7cents to scoot their ass to starbux.

There are countries like Finland or Switzerland, who are prepared to fight a full-scale war out of reserves alone for 6-9 months. That covers food, ammo, service, airforce, air defence, ground forces, special forces, even navy! How is it in the US? I doubt that long.

Sure powering machinery is the majority part of fossil fuel refining. But these people forget about medical uses, lubricants, building materials, roadways, and the list is long what oil provides. Without these by products of fossil fuels we would not be able to sustain the numbers of humans on this planet we now do.
