On Tuesday, Ukrainian forces north of Lyman continued to surge to the east, taking a southward flip to liberate Zelena Dolyna and Kolodyazi. Stories already recommend that this isn’t the precise extent of Ukrainian forces. Russian sources are already speaking about Ukraine attacking from Kolodyazi to each south and east, and Ukrainian sources point out that Ukraine has moved into Ivanivka.

Putin is set to speak on Friday about the fake referendums and now the UN security meeting they called for is also Friday. Russia is going to blame the United States for the pipeline explosions and use that to justify retaliation. They will use the fake referendums to carry out that "retaliation" in Ukraine.

It's right out of their "escalate to de-escalate" playbook. We are headed towards a very nasty situation and people need to understand the severity of it.

At least that's my opinion and how I see things going.

Vladimir Putin’s latest steps in the war—his mobilization of hundreds of thousands of Russians and his sham referendums in occupied areas of Ukraine, which he plans to annex—reflect a new level of not just risk but outright monstrousness.

His behavior is monstrous not only to Ukrainians (nothing new there) but also to his own citizens. He is drafting them into the army, and sending them to the frontlines, completely unprepared. Contrary to his pledge, the call-up is not excluded to reservists. Men who have never been in the army are getting called up too. Even most of those with time in the army have no experience in combat. (Russia hasn’t fought a ground war since Afghanistan; fighting in Chechnya and Syria was confined mainly to bombing and shelling.)  Most armies give new recruits several months of training before sending them off to fight; the new Russian draftees are getting two weeks, at most.

Their purpose is to plug up holes in the Russian army’s defenses, to keep Ukrainian soldiers from breaking through and enveloping them. In other words, they are serving strictly as cannon fodder—to make sure that Russia has enough troops to hold the line even if a lot of them get killed. And because they will be forming in tighter concentrations, a lot of them will get killed. If they’re ordered to go on the offensive, they are sure to get killed—or perhaps scatter in desertion—more quickly.

The US military appears to be stepping up aerial surveillance of a Russian territory in Europe, potentially signalling concern that the Kremlin could decide to deploy or even use nuclear weapons in Ukraine as Russian leaders have warned.

On Wednesday, a US electronic surveillance plane, the Boeing RC-135, departed from a base in the United Kingdom and circled around Kaliningrad, a Russian territory along the Baltic Sea — sharing no land border with the mainland — that was annexed after World War II, according to a flight tracking website. It was at least the third such flight in the past week.

Home to nearly 500,000 people, it is sometimes referred to as Russia's "unsinkable aircraft carrier" because it is wedged between Poland and Lithuania, essentially providing the Kremlin a forward operating base within NATO territory.

In 2018, Russia carried out a "major renovation" of an active nuclear weapons storage facility in Kaliningrad some 50 kilometers from Poland, according to Hans Kristensen, a nuclear arms expert at the Federation of American Scientists. The facility, he wrote at the time, could function "as a forward storage site that would be supplied with warheads from central storage sites in a crisis."

May be total BS, but read elsewhere that Russia's Lyman forces have already surrendered. Since then have seen less direct reporting from there about battles/skirmishes.

Hope so.

Zelensky/Ukraine have made a number of statements recently as to how they will humanely treat Russian POWs. Lyman would be a great place to prove it and set an example to other Russian fighters that it's safer to surrender than to continue to fight.

I'm sorry but it is not people who should understand it, but the countries of the United Nations that the intervention of UN troops is a necessity in Ukraine and the countries that are against it should be excluded from the UN because what was supposed to be a special operation was an ordinary genocide and no country that did not reacts to it should not be a member of the United Nations because how can it be a member if it tolerates illegal activities. Personally, I don't understand how a country that breaks the law can speak at the United Nations.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has threatened to retaliate against suspected sabotage of the Nord Stream natural-gas pipelines that run between Russia and Europe.

NATO issued a statement Thursday saying the leaks were of "deep concern," and that if the damage was caused by sabotage, it would be met with a "united and determined response."

The statement marks an escalation of tensions between the West and Russia and came after after several European leaders blamed Moscow for the leaks.

"All currently available information indicates that this is the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage," the North Atlantic Council, NATO's political decision-making body, said in its statement Thursday. "These leaks are causing risks to shipping and substantial environmental damage. We support the investigations underway to determine the origin of the damage."

Yeah

I don't think we had an aircraft there.

Based on the takeoff and landing points, it probably came from the Kamensk-Uralsky military base. They have MI-24 choppers there.

Makes sense based on the path (tight turns) and speed I saw during it's flight.

Very good points and even more of reason why everyone needs to understand the severity of it all. People need to be prepared, without panicking. We are days to weeks away from seeing nuclear weapons likely being used in some capacity.

Sick of seeing the "nukes don't exist" threads and seeing all the Putin lovers here. Nukes are real, are likely to be used in the very near future and if you are an American and love Putin, then you need to go.

People need to realize this shit is real and things are escalating extremely fast. Those who tolerate this at the U.N. should be removed from the United Nations as you said and the rest of the world should make it clear that these actions will not be tolerated by anyone.
