The queen is also the head of the Church of England. She was never supposed to get the throne. Her uncle wanted to marry a divorced woman which was forbidden by the church of England at the time. He decided to marry the divorcee and be abdicated from the throne entirely. Thus going to his brother George IV and then George’s only child Elizabeth II.
