The sociopolitical left in general infects British/European culture, so their so-called far right would be normative conservatives in societies where leftism hasn't run wild for decades. Which means if the Tories are bad, the outright flaming liberals of Labour are even more corrupt, deranged, disgusting and mean-spirited.

Part of the reason for that is because too many people through the years have for some reason wanted to give leftists a somewhat softer label like "lefty" or "lefties." That's analogous to wanting to use the friendly sounding nickname of "Uncle Joe" for ruthless, cunning, inhumane Joseph Stalin. In fact, various liberals used that exact nickname for Stalin in the 1930s and 1940s.
