I had my first summer job at mcdonalds when I was 14.

I quit when I had enough saved for a sega dreamcast.

They are that short on labor.

Many of us worked fast food jobs at 14-15 in the early 90s. You know, before middle-aged illegal aliens expected those job to pay enough to support their anchor babies.

i thought this was standard? it's like the first job you get because you have no skills or qualifications and you just follow a procedure. you'd have to be a greta thumberger to not be able to do that.

They are everywhere. I've seen signs like that at Superior,Wisconsin Mcds among other states. I had my first restaurant job in Minnesota at age 14. It paid 4something an hour. 14 and 15 year olds don't get paid as much and are only allowed to work certain hours. The cooks had me cleaning fryers, deboning chicken etc because they were lazy. Burned myself a few times...

I worked there when I was 14 in the 80s. My first job.

I worked at Baskin Robbins when I was 14. Many years ago. It's permitted.

I had friends bussing tables on weekends at a local banquet hall at 13 years old. They were paid well in cash every night, the only thing was your parents had to be alright with you working until midnight on Friday and Saturday night.

Both those friends have always had a strong work ethic and have done nothing but excel in life.

In Vegas Las Vegas Review Journal used to hire families to deliver newspapers knowing full well kids as young as 5 were learning job skills while helping their moms.

At 9 they were working with their older siblings inside the RJ office.

All said they were proud to earn spending (and family food money) while developing a solid, making them far more competitive in the future.

Well they already do it in Ontario. In fact they like hiring under 18's to work for them because they can pay them the student minimum wage instead of the adult minimum wage which is more an hour. McDonald's saves money hiring kids instead of adults.

You can legally work in most places at the age of 14. The legal age to start working in Ontario for example is 14. You can get your drivers permit at 16.

I guess I'm living under a rock to not know McD hired that young.

With that being said, I'm glad to hear it. Kids that apply have something in mind other than playing video games and posting on facebook. Bravo.

I personally started working at 12 or 13. Hoeing beans, baling hay, cutting brush and stuff like that. It felt pretty good to have a few bucks in my pocket when a lot of the other kids had to ask mom or dad for a dime to buy a Snickers bar.
