They know that we are about to start entering rapid inflation and perhaps hyper inflation which is why they are trying to enact capital controls.

Rapid/hyper inflation would mean the price of houses/gold/bitcoin/stocks would all shoot through the roof not because they are worth more but because the other side of the pairing (the dollar) is worth less every day.

To control this and profit from it they increase capital gains taxes to higher then even the highest income tax bracket available to siphon as much profits/gains from people looking to hedge against this inflation.

It's a sign that this currency is about to die out especially so that they removed any incentive to hold an asset long term (over 12 months) which now allows the market to become extremely volatile towards the end of the year while corporations/hedge funds and rich investors and retail and the like can tax harvest all their investments that are currently at a loss (no reason to hold long term so if you invested 5 billion in a company 6 months ago and its down 15% and its decemeber you can sell out of your entire position and claim that 15% loss and then rebuy back in because there is no incentive to hold 12 months or longer since you are now the most heavily taxed bracket in the country regardless of whether its short or long term
