If you have an enclosed yard, and feed them cat food, wet cat food, and leave them water, they live in bushes and just literally 'hang around'. Never did anything, they just stay there and never leave. They grow up, and that's about it. My friend and I shared one we found! they are nice but belong outside. If you keep them in a cage, they get weird. They think they're going to die and will start eating their own crap out of fear of starving. Good luck... Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80267802 United States 04/20/2021 09:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Saturday night 2 opossums got hit by a car or cars? I don't know if they were both hit by the same car or not. Quoting: TheGasMan II Anyway, the wife went to pick up our daughter yesterday from school and when they came back, our daughter saw 2 baby possums in the front yard, out by the road, just rambling around. She gathered them up and put them in a box. She wanted to keep them but I said no and had her take them into the woods behind our house. The wife went with her, and she says they went a couple hundred yards into the woods. The wife went to pick her up again today, and lo and behold, the same 2 possums are back out by the road, rambling around. I'm like, wtf?!?! Are they the same 2 or are these 2 different ones? They look the same, size wise and whatnot. While I was typing this thread, the wife spotted another one in the yard. So now we have 3. My daughter thinks it is sign from God that she was meant to care for these, lol. Maybe it is, idk. Has anyone ever raised a possum? I need help. [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] If they are raised from babies, in a domestic household, they are very cool pets. But they have to be vetted for health etc. |

Gets along with our cat, and the raccoon who also visits. Opossums are very non confrontational. Excellent pest control, too. Please don't eat the baby possums. Opossums are carriers of leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that starts off with flu-like symptoms. If left untreated, leptospirosis will cause kidney damage, menigitis, liver failure, and respiratory complications. The disease is transmitted through the urine and feces. It infects other mammals including cats, dogs, and humans. To prevent infection, keep pets vaccinated against leptospirosis and use bleach to clean up urine and feces. Wear gloves when handling a found opossum, and when cleaning up urine and feces. Wash hands with soap and water afterwards. |

Goat milk, cat food, veggies, they love grapes....They sleep most of the time and will use a catbox without much trouble at all. But they need to be kept in a cage a lot. Those are teenager possums there. Maybe preteen, but you should be able to raise them if you keep them warm and fed. Feed them kitty food and give them a stuffed animal to cuddle against lol at least you have three not one they'll keep each other warm. Later this summer when bigger take for a ride to a nice hiking area and release That's nice your daughter wants to take care of them. They look big enough to be pooping on their own but if you do not see any poops most babies need butts sipped with warm wet day to pee and poop kittens, puppies, coons, etc till about 2-3 weeks and old. |
