Why would a Rome aka the Catholic Church take the Greek gods and name them after planets

The names were decided thousands of years before the Catholic church existed.

Romans named the gods after planets, the Church came later. Learn your history, kid.

When St Paul went to Rome he said their were a lot of Gods on every road! He also comments there was a statue to the “unknown” God in the middle of the city! Acts 17 vs 23
The Romans listened to the Christian teachings of Paul but still hung onto the ideas of the statues,idols, gods and replaced with saints etc....

Its the other way around--the ancient Greeks named the planets after their Greek Gods
the Romans just changed the names to Latin

What is interesting is that the only month of the year named after an ancient god is March--for Mars the God of war
